Obituary

Danny Moore Killed In Pickup Turnover

Danny Layne Moore, 15 year old sophomore student in Crosbyton High School, was killed in accident Saturday afternoon when the pickup in which he was riding went out of control and turned over on FM 28 north of Highway 82.

Moore´s sister, Pamela, was injured in the accident and is in satisfactory condition in the Crosbyton hospital. She is a senior student in Crosbyton High School.

Funeral rites for Moore, son of Donville Moore of Crosbyton and Mrs. LaJean Moore of Ralls, were held at 3 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Otis Testerman of Littlefield, formerly of here, and the Rev. Ernest Stewart, pastor, officiated.

Burial was in Crosbyton cemetery under direction of King Funeral Home.

Members of the family have requested that memorials be in the form of contributions to a Danny Moore Memorial FFA Scholarship Fund, with FFA Advisor Harold Eades and Alfred Moody of Citizens National Bank in charge of accepting contributions.

The scholarship fund will be used for a boy planning to attend college or agribusiness.

Moore had participated in a track meet at Jayton Saturday with the CHS track team. His sister had met the school bus at the Highway 82-FM 28 intersection in order to take him home to get ready to attend the FHA Best Beau Banquet that evening. The accident occurred near the W. H. Leatherwood farm as they drove toward their home on the East Plains.

Kenneth Leatherwood, area farmer and school teacher, was working at the farm and reportedly witnessed the pickup turning end over end. Young Moore was thrown from the pickup.

He is survived by his parents; a brother, DeWayne of Denton; a sister, Pamela of Crosbyton; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ola Moore of Crosbyton and Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Harrell of Ralls; and his great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Ratheal and Mrs. Lena Moore, all of Crosbyton.

Pallbearers were Charles Ray Carr, Mike Hodges, Rex Brown, Jimmy Patterson, Kris Ellison, Steve Ratheal, Otto Ratheal and Larry Johnson.

Members of the Hank Smith Chapter of Future Farms of America and of the Crosbyton Athletic Association served as honorary pallbearers.
