Eldred MizeCROSBYTON (Special) — Services for Eldred Lee Mize, 83, of Crosbyton will be at 2 p.m. today in Crosbyton Church of Christ with church minister William Eudy, the Rev. Lester B. Griffin of Crosbyton First Baptist Church and Joseph Johnston of Lorenzo Church of Christ officiating.

Burial will be in Crosbyton Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home.

Mize died Monday, June 12, 1995, in a Lubbock hospital.

He was born June 5, 1912, in Gordon. He moved from there to Crosby County in 1928. He married Pearl Layton on March 2, 1935, in Ralls. He was a farmer and tire dealer. He was a member of the Church of Christ and the Road Runner Trailer Club.

He was preceded in death by twin sisters, Mary and Sarah Mize, who died in 1920, and by two brothers, Jessie W., who died in 1982, and Allen, who died in 1994.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jackie of Lubbock and Eddie and Sterling, both of Crosbyton; four brothers, Fred of Red Oak, Lewis of Lubbock, Raymond David of Fort Worth and Lawrence of Vista, Calif.; a sister, Gladys Noble of Lubbock and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers are G. J. Parkhill Jr., Brooks Ellison, D. J. Moses, Clayburn Marsh, Dee Cash and Lloyd Martin.

Pearl MizeServices for Willie Pearl Mize, 92, of Crosbyton were held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 26, 2008 in the Crosbyton First Baptist Church with Terry Ellison officiating. Burial was in the Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

Pearl passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the Crosbyton Nursing Home. She was born January 23, 1916 in Palo Pinto County, Texas to James Walter and Winnie Leora (Bearden) Layton. On March 2, 1935 she married Eldred Lee Mize in Ralls. He preceded her in death June 12, 1995.

A homemaker, Pearl was a member of the Crosbyton First Baptist Church, the Crosbyton Garden Club, Quilting Club and Ladies Auxiliary at the Crosbyton Clinic Hospital. For many years she was the contact person in Crosbyton for the American Heart Association. A collector of antiques for many years, she owned Pearl's Antiques in Crosbyton. A graduate of Eastland High School, Pearl moved to Crosbyton in 1923 in a covered wagon from Palo Pinto County, Texas. Pearl is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, J. W. Layton, Jr. and two sisters, Dora Lee Ellison and Anna Lee Layton.

Survivors include her three sons; Eddie Mize of Crosbyton, Jackie Mize of Lubbock and Sterling Mize of Crosbyton, two brothers; J. E. Layton of Enochs, Texas and Harold Layton of Seminole, four grandchildren; Kelly Mize, Misha Mize, Leslie Mize and Jay Mize and three great grandchildren; Talitha Mize, Justus Davis and Janson Davis. Serving as casket bearers will be Kelly Mize, Jay Mize, Donald Clyde Ellison, Randal Ellison, Zane Ellison and Zane Noble.

The family suggests memorials to the Children's Home of Lubbock, P. O. Box 2824, Lubbock, Texas 79408. Visitation will be from 6-7 PM Tuesday at Adams Funeral Home in Crosbyton.
