Obituary

Funeral services for Willard R. Mitchell, 73, are scheduled for 3 p.m. today (March 14)in First Methodist Church. The Rev. Floyd Scheaffer, Assembly of God pastor from Slaton, will officiate and be assisted by Rev. Henry Salley, local Methodist pastor.

Burial is to be in Crosbyton Cemetery, under direction of King Funeral Home.

A resident of the Crosbyton area since 1946 when he came here from Texas City, Mr. Mitchell was claimed by death about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital, where he had been a patient one month. He had been in failing health seven years.

Born Feb. 4, 1901 in Brandon, Willard R. Mitchell and the former Minnie Lee Hamilton were married Aug. 9, 1923, in Itasca. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary last August.

Mrs. Mitchell is among survivors, which also include two sons, Gary and Vance Mitchell, both of Crosbyton; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Bowen of Midland and Mrs. LaVerne Stewart of Lubbock; four brothers, Vernon, Elmer and Henry, all of Crosbyton, and Howard of Plainview; one sister, Mrs. John Himmel of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

A retired farmer, Mr. Mitchell also worked for Crosby County for 12 years.
