Obituary

An apparent heart attack claimed the life of Joe M. Mendez about 4 p.m. Sunday. The 40-year-old man succumbed in the Crosbyton Hospital.

Funeral mass was at 10 a.m. Wednesday in San Jose Catholic Church here with the Rev. Tom Irlbeck officiating.

Burial was in Crosbyton Cemetery under the direction of King Funeral Home.

Mr. Mendez had made Crosbyton his home the past 30 years. He was employed as a farm laborer.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie; three daughters, Mrs. Vera Longoria of Crosbyton, Mrs. Mary Gonzales of Idalou and Machel Mendez of the home; six sons, Joe, Louis, Domingo, Martin, Thomas and Johnny, all of the home; his father, John Mendez of Kansas City, Mo.; his mother, Mrs. Juanita Medina of Pleasanton; two brothers, Jesse of Pleasanton and Frank of San Antonio; one sister; and one grandchild.
