Daniel´s and Agnes´s son, Jacob, was born about 1765 at Mecklenburg Co., NC. He continued the move west, living in Georgia from probably 1780 to ca. 1806. He married Mary "Polly" Morrow in Georgia about 1800. About 1806, he moved to the northern Alabama territory near what is now Huntsville, AL. He later moved to central Alabama, living near Selma. He died in 1841 in Tippah Co., MS.

They were still living in Erath County at the time but probably moved to the Afton community, along with a number of other McCarty family members, sometime around the turn of the century. Mary, a doctor, was well known and loved in the Afton community. She and Joe, who died in 1906 while on a trip to Paducah, are buried at Afton.

Alpha´s great grandfather, Robert S. Edgar, his wife, Mary (Tenant), and their children had left Closeburn Mill, Dumphriesshire, Scotland and emigrated to Canada in 1845. The family later moved to the United States in 1864, settling at Schuyler, Colfax Co., Nebraska. Robert became a naturalized U.S. citizen on April 21, 1874. All of Robert´s and Mary´s children, except Andrew, settled in Nebraska or nearby states. Andrew moved to Texas where he met and married Virignia Ellen Rudder in Mason County, TX. They were the parents of seven children. Their son, Robert Lee, was Alpha´s father. Andrew died when he was about 45 years of age and is buried in Mason Co., TX. His widow married W.H. Teague in 1898. They eventually moved to Spur where she died in 1942. She is buried in Spur Cemetery, as is her son, Will Edgar.

After Colene and Alpha married, they settled on the farm his father had purchased in 1899. Three children were born to this union: Elvis C., David Wayne, and Donna Waynell. In 1943, he moved his family to Spur where they lived for 5 years. He took a job with Allen Parts Store and Alpha worked at Gabriel´s Dry Goods Store. In 1947, he opened Max´s Service Station in Crosbyton. He hired a manager to run the station until a year later, in the fall of 1948, when he moved his family to Crosbyton.
