Obituary

Funeral services for Sam L. Martin, 62, a resident of Crosby County for 19 years, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon with Rev. Wayland Boyd, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of King Funeral Home.

Mr. Martin died about 4:30 p.m. in a Lubbock hospital following an illness of about two month. Born Nov. 16, 1894, at St. Jo, Texas, he moved to Crosby County in 1939 where he had farmed since that date.

Survivors include the wife, Alta; two sons, Lane of Dallas and Cleveland of Glendale, Calif.' two daughter, Mrs. Adrian West and Mrs. David Rape, both of Floydada; three brothers, Roscoe, Lee and Otto, all of St. Jo, two sisters, Mrs. Alva Dowd of St. Jo., and Mrs. Laura Bateman of Houston, and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Carl Simpson, Jimmy Edwards, Ferrin smith, Richard Proctor, Alonzo Atchison and Gene Green.

Alta Beatrice Martin, who moved to Crosbyton 46 years ago, was claimed by death at 3 a.m. last Thursday, Oct. 17, in St. Mary´s Hospital in Lubbock following a lengthy illness. She was 85.

Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Lester B. Griffin, pastor, officiating.

Burial was made in Crosbyton Cemetery, under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Born May 23, 1900 in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, she was married to Sammuel Lafayette Martin on Dec. 7, 1924 in St. Jo, Tex. Mr. Martin preceded his wife in death May 17, 1957.

The family moved to Crosbyton in January 1939.

A housewife, Mrs. Martin was a member of First Baptist Church in Crosbyton.

Survivors include one son, Cleveland Martin of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Alta Fay Talbo of Crosbyton and Sarah West of Floydada; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
