Obituary

CROSBYTON (Special) — Crosby County Attorney J. Billy Marley, 55, died Thursday after he was stricken by an apparent heart attack in his law office here.

He was pronounced dead at noon at Crosbyton Clinic Hospital. Services are pending with Adams Funeral Home here.

The Crosbyton native spent most of his life here; farming in the Crosbyton area until he attended Texas Tech University and the University of Texas Law School, from which he graduated in 1966. He then became a partner in Jung & Marley law firm, where he had an active practice until his death. He also had farming and ranching interests in Crosby and Dickens Counties.

Active in civic affairs, Marley was chosen by the Chamber of Commerce here as the city´s Man of the Year in 1975. He had served two years as chamber president.

Besides serving since 1969 in the elected office of county attorney, Marley also was the city attorney.

He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church here and was a member of the Lions Club. He has been involved in a number of civic endeavors.

He married Nova Jean Simpson July 5, 1945.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Pam Wheeless of Crosbyton; two sons, Mike of Spur and Craig of New York City; a brother, A. R. of McAdoo; and five grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
