Gary Lowrie PhotoU.S.Flag  Gary Lynn Lowrie, 59, of Slaton succumbed to his battle with ALS on July 26, 2006 surrounded by his family and friends. He was born March 30, 1947 in Wellington. He was the first child of John M. and Geneva Lowrie. Gary graduated from Weatherford High School in Weatherford, Okla. in 1965. He had served a tour of duty as a Communications Technician, Petty Officer First Class, with the US Navy during the Vietnam War at Camp Zama Naval Air Base, Kamaseya, Japan and Kenitra, Morroco. After his tour, Gary settled in Arlington as a recruiter. He received numerous citations for outstanding conduct throughout his Navy career. Gary left the USN to pursue a degree in Pharmacy. He attended Tarrant County Junior College, UT Arlington and graduated from UT Austin Pharmaceutical School in 1980. Gary worked for Eckerd Drug, Lowrie Drug in Crosbyton and purchased Slaton Pharmacy in 1986, later naming it Lowrie Gift & Drug. In 1998, Gary sold the store and went to work for United Pharmacies until his retirement in December 2005 due to Lou Gehrigs Disease.

Gary married Patricia Ann McReynolds on August 12, 1983 in Ruidoso Downs, N.M. They had been residents of Slaton since 1986.

He was a member of the West Texas Pharmaceutical Association, the Harley Owners Group and the NRA.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, John M. Lowrie on December 16, 1995. His survivors include his wife, Patricia of Slaton; sons, Bryan Lowrie of Flower Mound and Eric Fisher of Lubbock; daughters, Sandy Rip-pel of Snohomish, Wash. and Jennifer Banzet of Savannah, Ga.; his mother, Geneva Lowrie of Irving; brother, Ron Lowrie of Coppell; sister, Karen Lowrie of Cleburne; and three grandchildren, Corbin, Dallas and Dalton Lowrie all of Flower Mound.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2006 in Slaton's First United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Campbell officiating. Interment will be Crosbyton Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

The family suggests memorials to the ALS Foundation national or local chapters.

There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight.
