Funeral rites were read Friday for Walter Lemley, 72, resident of Crosbyton 49 years. Lemley died at 4 a.m. Thursday in the Crosbyton hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home Wednesday night, Oct. 1.

Officiating was Elder Jessie Bass of Austin and Elder L. M. Handley. Rites were read in the Primitive Baptist Church. Burial was in direction of King Funeral Home.

A native of Graford, Lemley moved to Crosby County in 1920.

Through the years he has had farming and ranching interests and he operated a grocery store here several years. He was the owner of the Main Cafe.

He is survived by his wife, Maggie; two sons, Fabian, superintendent of McAdoo schools, and Troy, superintendent of Smyer schools; a brother, Jeff, of Crosbyton; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Claude Sudduth, Charles Freeman, Fritz Ausmus, T.W. Stockton, Ancil Steele and Bob Perkins.
