U.S.Flag CROSBYTON (Special) - Graveside services for Lt. Cmdr. J.W. "Jake" Layton, 79, of Seattle, Wash., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Crosbyton Cemetery with Carrol Robertson officiating.

Burial will be directed by Adams Funeral Home.

Layton died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was under hospice care.

He was born in Palo Pinto County. He moved to Crosby County in October, 1923. He attended Crosby schools and graduated from Eastland High School. He served in the U.S. Navy for many years until his retirement in 1960. He married Elsie Douglas in Seattle. He was a commercial fisherman and a member of University Presbyterian Church in Seattle. A son, Jon, died in the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife and a sister, Pearl Mize of Crosbyton.

The body will be at Adams Funeral Home from 8 a.m. Wednesday until time of service.
