Ruby Huddleston

Ruby Sylvia Huddleston, a Crosbyton resident since 1921, was claimed by death about 3 a.m. Tuesday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital following a prolonged illness. Mrs. Huddleston, who resided at 216 South Grain, was 85.

Memorial services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church. Officiating were the Rev. C. Melvin Ratheal, a son-in-law from Phoenix, Ariz., and the Rev. Bobby Rine, pastor.

Interment was made in Crosbyton Cemetery beside the grave of her late husband, Claudes Tripp Huddleston who preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1973. Adams Funeral Home directed arrangements.

The former Ruby Sylvia Ray was born Aug. 30, 1896, in Henry County, Tenn. She was married to C. T. Huddleston on Dec. 26, 1917, in Henry County.

The family moved from Tennessee to Texas in 1921. C. T. Huddleston was involved in automobile dealerships and other business ventures and also was engaged in farming as well as being a civic leader. During World War II, he served as head of the Office of Price Administration in Crosby County.

Mrs. Huddleston, a housewife, was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Crosbyton.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Joe (Milla Raye) Cargile of Crosbyton and Mrs. C. Melvin (Doris) Ratheal of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Mary Catherine Dietering of Lubbock; three grandchildren, William Robert (Bob) Adams Jr., Melvin Dale Ratheal and Ray Lynn Ratheal; and five great grandchildren, April Ratheal, Crystal Ratheal, Ray Ratheal Jr., Justin Adams and Lesley Adams.
