Obituary

Funeral services for J.R. (Uncle Bob) Huckabay, 79, longtime resident of Crosby county, were held Sunday at 5 p.m. in the Crosbyton Church of Christ. Leonard Dennis, McAdoo minister, officiated, assisted by Rev. Carl Grissom, pastor of the Crosbyton First Baptist church.

Mr. Huckabay died Saturday morning at the Crosbyton Clinic hospital, following an illness of several weeks.

Mr. Huckabay had been a resident of Crosbyton for only four years, but had lived in Crosby county since 1914. He farmed near Lorenzo for many years, and served as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3 at Lorenzo for several years. He was born in Fannin county June 29, 1871, moving to Erath county with his parents when he was five years old. He was in the grocery business in Erath county at one time and lived for a short time in Floyd county after moving to the plains.

A brother died only a short time ago at Lorenzo. Mr. Huckabay was the last member of his immediate family.

Survivors include his wife; three daugthers, Mr. Lige Ellison, Crosbyton; Mrs. Linton Lanaham, Floydada, and Mrs. Joe Smith, Maple; five sons, L.D. of Crosbyton, Jim of San Jose, Calif.; Truman and Ed, both of Salinas, Calif., and B.B. of Mountainaire, N. Mex.

There are also 28 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren surviving.

Burial was in the Crosbyton cemetery under direction of King Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased.

CROSBYTON, Oct. 26 (Special) Mrs. Mary Kelly Huckabay, 80, a resident of Crosbyton County since 1914, died at 6:10 p.m. Monday in her home at 505 W. 4th St. here. She had been ill about a week.

Mrs. Huckabay was born Dec. 4, 1872, in Stevens County, and came to Crosby County with her husband, Bob Huckabay, who preceded her in death two years ago. She had lived in Crosbyton for the past six years.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the King Funeral Home here.

She is survived by five sons, J.D., Crosbyton; Jim, San Jose, Calif.; Truman, Tucson, Ariz.; Ed, Salinas, Calif.; and B.D., Mountainair, NM; three daughters, Mrs. Lidge Ellison, Crosbyton; Mrs. Linton Lanham, Silverton; and Mrs. Joe Smith, Maple; 28 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
