Lillie Mae Hargrove, a well-known Crosbytonite for over half a century, was claimed by death at 12:50 p.m. Monday at Crosbyton Clinic Hospital. Although she had experienced a lengthy illness, she was admitted to the hospital that day from Crosbyton Care Center.Mrs. Hargrove was 87.
Memorial services were at 4 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church. Officiating were Dr. Lester B. Griffin, pastor, and the Rev. Cliff Hargrove, a grandson, pastor of Palo Duro Baptist Church in Wildorado, Tex.
Burial was made in Crosbyton Cemetery, under direction of Adams Funeral Home.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
A housewife, she was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Homemakers Sunday School Class, and a member of the Crosby County Senior Citizens.
Born June 26, 1897 in Dallas County, the former Lillie Mae Hinkle was married to Clark Echols Hargrove on Sept. 10, 1916, in Hunt County. The family moved to Crosby County on Sept. 17, 1926.
Twelve children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hargrove. All the offspring who reached school age attended Crosbyton schools, and Mrs. Evelyn Lowrie taught all of them.
Mr. Hargrove preceded his wife in death Oct. 10, 1954, at age 57.
Mrs. Hargrove is survived by three sons, Leslie Hargrove and Joe K. Hargrove, both of Crosbyton, and Frank Hargrove of Lubbock; four daughters, Ada Maye Damron of Matador, Billie Jean Stokes of Cotton Center, Mary Lou Berry and Nelda Sue Webb, both of Bakersfield, Calif.; three sisters, Gladys Swindall of Crosbyton, Billie Gratton and Opal Whisenhunt, both of Dallas; 19 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
