Loading picture of Harold HardyOne of McAdoo´s most distinguished citizens died Wednesday. Harold Hardy, 53, succumbed at 2:45 a.m. on his farm after being seriously ill for several months.

Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. this afternoon, Thursday, in Methodist Church at McAdoo. Rev. James Patterson, Lubbock, will officiate, assisted by Rev. Bernard Seay, McAdoo Methodist pastor, and Rev. James Pope, McAdoo Baptist pastor.

Hardy was born at Malone in Hill county, April 26, 1910 and has been a McAdoo resident since 1933. He was a member of the Methodist Church and Scottish Rite of the Masonic Lodge.

He was very active in civic affairs and had served on the board of McAdoo Independent School District.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; a daughter, Linda Gayle; a son, Norman Earl; his father, N.D. Hardy, Pasadena; a brother, B.M. Hardy, Baytown; two sisters, Mrs. D.R. Hudman, Pasadena, Mrs. Linnie Fears, Nacogdoches; two grandchildren.

Burial will be in Crosbyton cemetery. King Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie HardyMarjorie Van Meter Hardy, 92, of McAdoo, passed from this life August 18, 2007 in Spur. She was born November 3, 1914 in Rhome, Texas to Earl C. and Roxana (Morris) Van Meter. She moved to McAdoo November 3, 1925 on her 11th birthday and continued to live there the rest of her life. She attended school in McAdoo and was a graduate of Texas Tech University with degrees in English and Spanish. She taught school at McAdoo and was employed by McAdoo Coop Gin and Supply until her retirement in 1981. She married Harold D. Hardy December 29, 1934 in Harrold, Texas. Marjorie and Harold had two children, Norman Earl Hardy and Linda Gayle Neaves. She was a Methodist and a faithful member of the Methodist Church for over 75 years. She is preceded in death by her husband Harold who passed away July 31, 1963, her parents, and one brother, Earl Van Meter, Jr.

Survivors include son, Norman (Linda) Hardy of McAdoo; daughter Gayle (George) Neaves of McAdoo; five grandchildren, Susie (Lonnie) Kuss of Wolfforth; Janie (Greg) Detray of Marathon, Fl; Kathy (Jamie) Smith of Wolfforth; Cameron Neaves of McAdoo; Lisa (Rick) Paschall of Spur, nine great grandchildren, Penny Havens and Wesley Havens, both of Lubbock; Shelby (Ben) Jones of Allen; Briana Marshall and Conner Smith of Wolfforth; Cameron and Cara Paschall of Spur; Zachary Gage Detray of Marathon, FL; and Jordan Kuss of Lubbock; one sister, Frances Taylor of Crosbyton; and one sister-in-law, Doris Van Meter of McAdoo.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, August 20, 2007 at McAdoo Methodist Church with Rev. Robby Harris and Rev. Larry Burton officiating. Burial will follow in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton. Serving as casket bearers will be George Neaves, Cameron Neaves, Bub Eldredge, Tony Edinburgh, J. K. Edinburgh and Randy Canale.

The family request memorials to McAdoo Methodist Church, Box 57, McAdoo, Tx 79243 or McAdoo Ex-Student Association c/o Rita Harris, Rt. 1, Box 127, McAdoo, Tx 79243. Visitation will be from 4-5 PM Sunday at Adams Funeral Home in Crosbyton.
