Funeral services for Mrs. Joe W. (Gladys) Grizzle Sr., 68, are tentatively planned for Friday afternoon in First Baptist Church in Crosbyton, with burial in Crosbyton Cemetery.

King Funeral Home here is handling the arrangements.

A former teacher at both Kalgary and Crosbyton, Mrs. Grizzle was claimed by death about 3 a.m. Wednesday in a Las Vegas, Nevada, nursing home. The deceased had been in failing health six years.

She was a resident of Crosbyton Nursing Home until moving in March 1972 to the home of her son, Joe W. Grizzle Jr., in Las Vegas. She entered a nursing home there in January.

Mrs. Grizzle was a longtime resident of Kalgary and Crosbyton. Her husband is a retired Baptist preacher.

Survivors, in addition to the husband and son, include three sisters, Mrs. Sam Grizzle of Crosbyton, Mrs. Jack Henderson of Stephenville and Mrs. I. R. Perry of Fort Worth; a brother, J. R. Walker of San Diego, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

The Rev. J. Wayne Grizzle, who pastored Baptist churches at Pansy, Kalgary and others in the Spur area, was buried Saturday afternoon in the Crosbyton Cemetery following 1:30 p.m. memorial services in First Baptist Church here.

Officiating were the Rev. Wayland Boyd, pastor of First Baptist Church of Eunice, N.M., and the Rev. Stanley Nixon, pastor of Parkview Baptist Church in Plainview. King Funeral Home directed local arrangements.

Rev. Grizzle, 88, was a retired Baptist pastor and farmer.

He succumbed at 11 a.m. last Wednesday in Las Vegas, Nevada, after a short illness. Rev. Grizzle moved to Las Vegas in 1972 from Crosbyton.

Born Aug. 14, 1887 in Pittsboro, Mississippi, Joe Wayne Grizzle was married June 12, 1928, to the former Gladys Walker in Stephenville. Mrs. Grizzle preceded her husband in death on July 25, 1973.

A World War I veteran, the deceased served in the Muese-Argonne front in Germany. He was a member of Barracks No. 389.

Rev. Grizzle pastored the Pansy Baptist Church for several years during the 1920´s. He later was relief pastor at the Pansy church on different occasions.

He also served the Watson Baptist Church at Kalgary and churches in the Spur area.

Survivors include one son, Joe Wayne Grizzle of Las Vegas; two brothers, Sam Grizzle and Jake Grizzle, both of Crosbyton; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers were: Eugene Pierce, Billy Webster, Kenneth Havens and Lonnie Stokes.
