John Robinson Freeman was born in Fayette Co., Texas to, the son of William B. and Minerva Freeman. He married Oct 13, 1881 at Willow City, Texas to Susan Estelle HARRISON, born July 30, 1861 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Joseph David HARRISON and Arrena Ellin (DUTTON) both natives of Blount County, Alabama. This family had gone to Arkansas some time between the years of 1858 and 1860. When Joseph David HARRISON joined the Confederate army in 1862, he took his family back to Blount Co. Ala., and Susan was the only one of the children born in Ark.
John R. Freeman and his wife, Susan, lived, the early years of their married life, at Willow City, Gillespie Co., TX, and their three older children were born there. Their youngest child, John Dorbandt FREEMAN, was born during the two year period they lived in Lampasas, TX. The family moved, in 1907 to Aspermont, Stonewall Co., TX, and Susan (HARRISON) FREEMAN died there on Sep 20, 1909. I quote here short excerpts from a long obituary which was written by her pastor, the Rev. A.T. Ford, and appeared in the Aspermont newspaper Sep 25, 1909. Quote.... "Mrs. Susan Freeman, became a Christian and joined the Baptist church in her early girlhood. To her, religion was a verity, a principle of life. To her Jesus Christ was an all sufficient Savior and ever present helper and comforter...... Six years ago she was stricken with cancer, but no complaint against her lot was ever heard. Always patient, always cheerful, helping others as long as she could walk to a neighbors house. Her life was a benediction to all with whom she came in contact........at 11:52 p.m. on Sep 20, 1909, surrounded by her husband, her four children, her only brother, and other relatives and friends present, she gently breathed her last...... At 4 p.m. Sep 21, we laid her body in the silent grave to await the summons of her Savior to come forth in immortality."
