CROSBYTON (Special) - Services for Charles L. Freeman, 69, of Crosbyton will be at 2 p.m. today in Crosbyton Church of Christ with Jim York, minister, Loyd Hall, minister of Gatesville Church of Christ, and Joseph Johnston officiating.Burial will be in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home.
He died at 8:02 p.m. Thursday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Crosbyton. He married Billie Jo Cowan on Oct. 5, 1947, in Tahoka. He worked with the Boy Scouts of America and was a cub master. He organized and coached a Pee-wee baseball program.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a director of Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce and was named Citizen of the Year for 1964. He was a member of Crosbyton Hospital Board, American Legion, Crosbyton School Board and the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Joe L., Greg and Roger, all of Lubbock; a brother, Bill of Hale Center; two sisters, Lennie M. Freeman of Lubbock and Anita Lindley of Ralls; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John Ancell, Jimmy Karr, Ted Karr, Dee Cash, Ross Cash, Joe Cargile and Les Hargrove.

Services for Billie Jo Freeman, 71, of Lubbock were held at 11 a.m. Monday April 26, 1999, in the Crosbyton Church of Christ with Loyd Hall, a Church of Christ minister of Gatesville, officiating.Burial was in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home.
She died Friday, April 23, 1999, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 11, 1927, in Tahoka. She graduated from Tahoka High School in 1945. She worked for two years for the Santa Fe Railroad in Lamesa.
She married Charles Freeman on Oct. 5, 1947, in Tahoka. He died July 16, 1992.
She had worked for the Moody Grain Co., and she owned and operated Freeman´s Flowers from 1963 until 1977. In 1978, she became the district clerk for Crosby County, retiring in June 1998. She moved to Lubbock in July 1998. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was a former Cub Scout den mother, Little League supporter, and a member of the Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce and Texas State Clerks Association. She was the former president of the Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce, and she was awarded the Citizen of the Year in 1977 and Citizen Through the Years in 1995.
Survivors include three sons, Joe and Jameree Freeman,, Greg and Debi Freeman, and Roger and Sarah Freeman, all of Lubbock; three brothers, Don Cowan of San Benito, Carl Cowan of Arkoma, OK, and Bob Cowan of Claremore, OK.; eight sisters, Ann Walton of Snyder, Sue Booth of Odessa, T. Ann Jackson of Vian, Okla., Rose Peterson of Joplin, Mo., Jessie Springer of Pocolo, Okla., Linnie Binyon of Charleston, Ark., Barbara Harris, Margie Harrald of Pocolo; two step sisters, and Dee Baker, Pocolo; and Jo Williams of Lawrene, MA; and six grandchildren, Megan Horner of Macon, GA, Kelcy Freeman of St. Mary, GA., Jacey, T.C., and Ann Addie Freeman, all of Lubbock; and Jennifer Dean of Lubbock.
The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Lubbock, the American Cancer Society or to a favorite charity.
