• Obituary

Crosbyton community lost another of its longtime residents when Marie Fowler was claimed by death at 1:50 p.m. Friday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital following a sudden illness. Mrs.Fowler, 79, became ill at her home and was rushed to the hospital.

The longtime Big Four Community resident moved to Crosby County in 1916 from Erath County.

Memorial services for Mrs. Fowler were held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Crosbyton First United Methodist Church. Officiating were the Rev. Dave Treat, pastor, and the Rev. Johnnie Williams of Lubbock, a former local pastor.

Interment was made in Crosbyton Cemetery. Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton directed arrangements.

Serving as pallbearers were J.W. Criswell, Billie Cornelius, John W. Stewart, Henry Higginbotham, R.H. Farris Jr. and Rex Wheeler.

Marie Kiker was born Nov. 4, 1902 in Erath County, Tex., and moved to this county 14 years later.

She and Glenford Fowler were married July 11, 1926, at Wake. Mr. Fowler preceded his wife in death on March 21, 1975.

A housewife, Mrs. Fowler was an active member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Loyalty Ladies Sunday School Class and the Methodist Women´s Auxiliary. She was president and a longtime member of the Big Four Home Demonstration Club.

Survivors include two sons, J.M. Fowler of Crosbyton and Wayne Fowler of Plainview; two daughters, Mrs. W.L. (May Gene) Flatt of Oakton, Virginia, and Mrs. J.C. (Loreta) Henderson of Stratford; three brothers, Lewis Kiker of Plainview, Luther Kiker of Canyon and Charles Kiker of Anton; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Criswell of National City, Calif., and Mrs. Victoria McNeely of Kingsland; and 10 grandchildren.
