As had been the case over 700 times previously, Loyd E. Fowler´s vehicle led the funeral procession to Crosbyton Cemetery on Friday afternoon. This time Sheriff Red Riley was at the wheel.The memorial services were for Mr. Fowler, who had been an active member of the Big Four and Crosbyton communities for over 60 years. He was 78.
Funeral rites were at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church. The Rev. Bobby Rine, pastor, and the Rev. Johnnie Williams of Lubbock, a retired Methodist minister who formerly pastored the Crosbyton First United Methodist Church, officiated.
Interment was made in Crosbyton Cemetery, Adams Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were W. W. Robertson, Brice Allen, R.P. Kirkendall, Dennis Robertson, Joe Dwyer, Ancel Steele, Lorenzo Lopez and Jim Reynolds, members of Crosbyton Lions Club served as honorary pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Opal; two sons, James E. Fowler of Bakersfield, Calif., and Darwyn Wayne Fowler of Perryton; two daughters, June Hargis of Henrietta and Linda Phillips of Round Rock; two brothers, Gerlin Fowler of California and Ray Fowler of North Platte, Neb.; two sisters, Fern Jones and Gladus Ernest, both of Lubbock; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
