Obituary

Crosbyton community lost one of her better known residents with the death at 2:40 a.m. Friday in St. Mary´s Hospital in Lubbock of Duward Belmont Ellison. Mr. Ellison, 77, had suffered a lengthy illness.

He had been a Crosby County resident almost 61 years, coming here at age 17.

Memorial services for Mr. Ellison were at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Crosbyton Church of Christ. Officiating were Joseph E. Johnston, Glen Gray and Leonard Dennis.

Burial was made in Crosbyton Cemetery, under direction of Adams Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials to the White River Youth Camp or the Lubbock Children´s Home.

Serving as pallbearers were Ross Cash, Dee Cash, Allen Mize, C.D. Cash, Don Parker, Joe Johnston, Bill Bryant and Carl Maples.

Mr. Ellison was a member of the Crosbyton Church of Christ, where he had served as an elder for 26 years.

He also was active in his community, serving for 14 years on the Crosbyton school board, the Crosbyton Cooperative Gin board and the Crosbyton tax equalization board.

Mr. Ellison, a farmer, was a member of the Crosbyton Clinic Hospital Board at the time of his death.

Born Sept. 11, 1905 in Erath County, Duward B. Ellison was married to the former Frankie Jones on Feb. 19, 1940, in Crosbyton.

Survivors, in addition to Mrs. Ellison, are: two sons, Terry Ellison of Montrose, Colo., and Brooks Ellison of Crosbyton; one daughter, Judy Brown of Iowa Park; two brothers, Earnest Ellison of Comanche and Lonnie Ellison of Lubbock; four sisters, Irene Holcomb and Fae Robertson, both of Crosbyton, Clara Lee Stevens of Lubbock and Jean Tillson of Austin; and nine grandchildren.

Frankie Ellison Photo CROSBYTON — Services for Frankie Ellison, 88, of Crosbyton were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003 at Crosbyton Church of Christ with William Eudy officiating.

Burial was in the Crosbyton Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

She died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003 at Ralls Nursing Home.

She was born April 12, 1914, in Petrolia, TX.

She married Duward Belmont Ellison on Feb. 19, 1940, in Lakeview. He died April 8, 1983.

She was a member of Crosbyton Church of Christ and the Needle Club. She was a graduate of Lakeview High School and Amarillo Beauty College. She moved to Crosbyton in 1938.

She is preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil Jones of Dove Creek, CO and Leon Jones of Redmond, WA, and by 1 sister Opal Estep of Lubbock, and by her parents J. Frank and Willie Elba Kirk Jones.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Brown and her husband Charlie of Iowa Park; two sons, Terry Ellison and his wife Karen, and Brooks Ellison and his wife Belinda, all of Crosbyton; six sisters, Ernestine Cotthaus of Grand Junction, CO., Dana Applegate of Alvarado, TX, Sue Powell of Cortez, CO, Tommie Dennison of Lubbock, Leona Looney of Huntsville, TX and Maxine Beck of Dumas, TX; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to White River Youth Camp, P.O. Box 455, Crosbyton, TX 79322.
