Roy Lee Ellis, a well-known lifelong

Crosbyton resident, died about 10:55 a.m. Sunday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital following a sudden illness. His wife, June, had taken him to the hospital about 8:30 that morning.

Mr. Ellis was 48.

Memorial services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church. The Rev. Bobby Rine, pastor, officiated.

Masonic graveside rites were held prior to interment in Crosbyton Cemetery. Arrangements were directed by Adams Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers were: Dick Snodgrass, Joe Dwyer, T.W. Stockton, and Jimmy Dunn, all of Crosbyton; Darlen Brady of Dumont; Ed Redwine of Tahoka; Troy Leslie of Midland; and Mike Thompson of Round Rock.

Roy Lee Ellis was born Aug. 27, 1931. He and the former June Britton were married Nov. 6, 1951 in Roswell, N.M.

A veteran of the Korean War, Ellis was a farmer.

A longtime civic and community leader, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Crosbyton, Crosbyton Masonic Lodge #1020 AF&AM, the Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Kniva Shrine, and the Amateur Radio Club.

Mr. Ellis was a member and a Past Patron of the Crosbyton Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #891. He also was a member and past president of the Crosbyton Industrial Foundation.

For several years, Roy Lee Ellis served as a trustee on the Crosbyton Independent School District board of education. He held membership in the West Texas Chamber of Commerce and had served as Crosbyton´s director of the WTCC.

Survivors include his wife; June; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Ellis of Crosbyton; three sons, Roy Ellis of Brady, Doyle Ellis and Neale Ellis, both of Crosbyton; one daughter,Beverly Ellis of Crosbyton; one brother, William L. Ellis of Brady; and one sister, Dorothy Green of Lubbock.
