Police are continuing their search for Edward Eugene Craddock in connection with the murders of Jim L. Dewbre, 44, a lifelong Crosbyton resident, and Deborah Bennett of Lubbock.Murder charges against Craddock were filed Thursday of last week and a warrant was issued for the Shallowater man´s arrest.
Craddock reportedly was seen Tuesday in El Paso
The bodies of Dewbre and Mrs. Bennett were discovered Monday of last week from the trunk of an automobile in Lubbock. Authorities believe the double murder occurred Saturday night, Aug. 23, or early Sunday morning, Aug. 24.Craddock had been seen with the victims Saturday afternoon before their deaths. The trio reportedly had gone to Big Spring on business the previous day.
Dewbre presumably had told relatives that he was suspicious of Craddock.
Officers believe theft was the motive behind the double murder. Local relatives think Dewbre had been carrying a large sum of money on his person and that the suspect was aware of this situation.
Memorial Service
Funeral rites for Mr. Dewbre were at 4:30 p.m. last Wednesday, Aug. 27, in the First Baptist Church in Crosbyton. The Rev. Roy Eason, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church, and the Rev. Bobby Rine, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiated.Interment was made in Crosbyton Cemetery, under direction of Adams Funeral Home.
Jimmy Lewis Dewbre was born Aug. 12, 1936 in Floydada and had spent his entire life in this community. He and the former Joan Foy were married June 1, 1956 in the Farmer Community.
Dewbre was a car dealer.
He is survived by his wife, Joan of Crosbyton; two sons, Jimmy Dewbre of Crosbyton and Dennis Duane Dewbre of Hereford; two daughters, Vickie Dewbre of Lubbock and Courtney Dewbre of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Dewbre of Crosbyton; three brothers, Melvin Dewbre of White River Lake, George Dewbre and Gene Dewbre of Crosbyton; four sisters, Mrs. Lavoice (Geneva) Riley of Crosbyton, Mrs. Chris (Janelle) Berry of Kalgary, Mrs. Arron (Kathy) Justus and Mrs. Gary (Debbie) Tue, both of Lubbock; and five grandchildren.
