Former Spur Man Dies In Crosbyton Thursday, July 1

Funeral services for Vergil H. Davis, 72, were held Friday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock at the First Baptist Church of Crosbyton, with pastor, Rev. Carl Grisson, officiating.Burial was in the Crosbyton Cemetery with King Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Davis passed away Thursday evening, June 24, at his home. He had been a resident of Crosbyton for the past 35 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church and was a fine, upright citizen who will be missed by all who knew him. He had been crippled for many years but was always cheerful.
He was born in Kentucky, December 23, 1876. He came to Texas with his mother at the age of two years and settled in Hill county. When he was eight, the family moved to Seymour where he grew to manhood and was married to Miss Essie McMurry. They moved to Spur and Dickens and later came to Crosbyton where his wife passed away in 1916, one daughter was born to this union.
In 1917 he was married to Mrs. Effie Ball of Waco, and to this union was born one son.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Carl Gunn of Crosbyton; one son, V.H., Jr. of McGregor; a step-son, W.D. Ball of Colorado; three step-daughters, Mrs. George Millan of Espanolo, New Mexico, Mrs. Maude Chrisler of Waco and Mrs. Nora Pierce of Austin; 4 brothers, 3 sisters, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bill NIckson, Joe Blocker, Jimmy Edward, Bennie Smith, George Crump and Clyde Austin.
