Clyde Crausbay was born 1 1/4 miles west of Wake. He attended Crosbyton schools through fifth grade, then moved with his family to Hobbs, NM from 1929-1935. He went to Lubbock High the first part of his freshman year and to Crosbyton High the second half, then attended McAdoo High graduating from there in 1937. He attended Texas Tech two years and University of Texas two years. He then made an unsuccessful try at the Army Cadet Program.

He married Sibyl Mayfield June 24, 1944. In 1945 Clyde was drafted into the U.S. Army and served on Guam in the South Pacific. His son, Gary, was born while Clyde was overseas, so he was naturally anxious to get home and see his son when he returned to the States six months later in June, 1946. He almost missed his ride home, though. Sibyl´s mother, Mrs. Howard Mayfield, was going to keep Gary while Sibyl drove to El Paso to meet Clyde. Sibyl just happened to stop by the Western Union office on her way out of Crosbyton... and there was a wire from Clyde saying he hadn´t had time to call, but they were sending him from California to San Antonio, not El Paso, and meet him there. Sibyl is still grateful that something made her stop to see if there was a telegram, which kept her from driving across the state in the wrong direction to meet her returning soldier husband.

After his discharge from the Army, Clyde began farming, which is still an extensive operation. In 1975 he bought the John Deere dealership in Spur, Tri-County Farm Supply, Inc.

He has served on McAdoo Independent School District board of trustees, Dickens County school board, two different terms on Farmers Home Administration county board, McAdoo Coop Gin Board, helped organize American Cotton Growers and served on ACG Gin division board of directors and has served as director and member of the executive committee of Plains Cooperative Oil Mill.
