J.E. Colliers Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary on Sunday
Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Collier celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary Sunday, July 1.
Open house was held from 2 to 5 p.m. Refreshments of punch and cake were served to 50 guests. Many lovely gifts were received. The table was laid with a lace over gold cloth. The centerpiece was yellow gladiolas.
Children present were Mrs. W. P. Smire, Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Collier, Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Boone, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Hill, all of Lubbock; Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Collier of Dumas; Mrs. John Moore, of McFarland, Calif.; Mrs. Leo Sturgeon, Weslaco; Mrs. V.A. Bowman, Hitchcock, 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. John Newman, Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Newman and Jerry, and Mrs. Lee Thigpen, all of Graham; Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Newman and J.A. of Comanche, and Mrs. O. O. Sampson and Dickie Pinkerton of Lubbock.

Jessie E. Collier, 77, who moved to Crosby County only a few months after the City of Crosbyton was founded, died at 4:30 a.m. Monday November 13, 1961 after a short illness. Although ill, he had visted with friends downtown Friday.Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the First Methodist Church. Officiating was Rev. Leslie Thompson, Fort Worth, a former pastor of the Assembly of God Church in Crosbyton. Burial was in Crosbyton Cemetery under the direction of King Funeral Home.
Born in Hill County December 06, 1883, Collier moved to Crosby County in 1909 where he farmed until his retirement in 1941. His farm was located just west of the city. He was a member and officer of the Assembly of God Church here.
Survivors are his wife, Retta; two sons, Marlin of Lubbock, and James of Stinnett; seven daughters, Mrs. V.A. Bowman, Texas City; Mrs. John Moore, McFarland, California; Mrs. Leo Sturgeon, Weslaco; Mrs. Willie Mullenix, Belen, New Mexico; Mrs. Artie Simer, Mrs. Fred Hill and Mrs. W.G. Boone, all of Lubbock; four brothers, I.W. Dee and Luther all of Crosbyton and V.H. of Houston; four sisters, Mrs. Ewing Lawson, Crosbyton; Mrs. T.T. McDermett, Levelland, Mrs. Elmer Strawn, Hurst and Mrs. Ruby Gunn, North Hollywood, Calfornia; 34 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Loyd E. Fowler, Alvin Swindall, W.J. Smithee, Floyd Hill, Jackie Dewbre and John Buck.
