C.E. Cloude Killed In Car-Truck Wreck Near Dickens Monday

Funeral services were held on Nov. 1, 1956 for Charles Edward Cloude, 72, at the First Baptist Church in Crosbyton. He was killed Monday morning, Nov. 19, in a car-truck collision near Dickens. He was the father of Dr. O.R. Cloude of Spur.

Cloude was born Feb. 15, 1884 in Illinois and came to Texas in 1915 from Nebraska. He and Emma Alice Mathews were married at Grand Island, Neb. on Dec. 25, 1907. He had been a member of the Baptist Church for 30 years.

Rev. Wayland Boyd officiated at the 2 p.m. service in Crosbyton.

Pallbearers were Pete Bell, Eldred Mize, Ernest Ellison, Henry Higginbotham, Don Moses, and Truitt Mayes. Honorary pallbearers were Ed Wren, Carl Ingram, Dee Collier, G.O. Paudler, J.W. McDonald, A. Day, Del Anderson and Fred Robertson.

Cloude was preceded in death by his wife in 1921. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Hazel Warren of Crosbyton, two sons, Dr. O.R. of Spur and Clayton of Crosbyton; two sisters, Mrs. Mollie Saultu; four brothers, Raymond Harrison, Burt and Will and four grandchildren.

Interment was in the Crosbyton Cemetery with Chandler Funeral Home of Spur in charge.

The accident in which Cloude was killed occurred about 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11 on the loop highway turnoff southeast of Dickens. Cloude was traveling alone toward Spur and collided with a large van truck traveling toward Crosbyton.
