E. D. Cash was born Aug. 30, 1893 in Hunt Co. TX. He died Aug. 17, 1960 on Easter Sunday in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital. He had a long illness of cancer.

E.D. came from a family of 16 children, all but two of whom lived to be grown.

The Cashes were farmers and cattle people.

E.D.'s father was William Hard Cash. His mother was Florence Alexander Cash. They were married in Woodbury, TN, Sept. 5, 1878. The Cash family tree goes back to Scotland. They were plantation people in Georgia. W.H. and Florence came from TN to TX. They raised their family in Fannin Co.

Hard and Florence brought their family as far west as Dickens in the late 1800´s or early 1900´s. They spent the night north of the springs east of Dickens, but there seemed to still be rumors of Indian scares. I´m sure Florence told Hard she didn´t want to bring her children on top of the canyon, so they settled on the Nusom farm between Truscott and Gilliland in Knox. Co. There E.D. married Fannie Lee Ross July 20, 1913. The Ross´ home still stands north of Leonard and is known as the old Ross home.

The school they attended was a one-room school, the Johnson school. I, Dette Cash, went to the same school in my first year.

E.D. and Fannie lived their first years in Dennison, where he farmed and ranched near Marlo, OK. They moved their family by wagon to Truscott in 1926. Dette was born in Bowie. Ross and Cozette were born in Oklahoma.

I remember the move as we were sleeping in the wagon and something spooked the horses. E.D. asked Fannie to hand him the gun. Next morning the wagon single tree was near the back of the wagon. E.D. moved his family to Crosbyton by wagon train in 1928 with two of his brothers. Monroe and Elby, and their families.

Dee Cash was born in Knox Co., Apr. 1, 1927; Ima Jean Cash was born in Crosby Co., Jan. 1, 1929; Mary Elsie was born in Crosby Co., in Dec. 1932.

E.D. bought the Sep Smith farm in 1928. He lived there until he retired and moved to Crosbyton in 1958. Fannie still lives in the home on South Berkshire Street in Crosbyton.

E.D. served on Crosbyton School Board several years, was president of Co-op Gin 18 years and an Elder in Crosbyton Church of Christ.

E.D. was never too busy for others. It was not unusual to find a group of boys gathered around his bed late at night or early morning seeking his advice and wisdom for which he was well known.

The E.D. Cashes´ children went to school at Smith Ward one mile south of Cash home, where we children went to the 10th grade, then to Crosbyton by bus.

E.D. and Fannie had eight children. Twins were born in Crosby Co., Harrel Joe and Darrel Joe, who lived one month.

Dette Cash married Travis Sursa Jan. 15, 1938. Travis and Dette have one son, Travis Sursa Jr.

Cozette Cash married Robert Blackwood in 1940. Bob and Cozette have two sons, Rodney Blackwood and Greg Blackwood.

Ross Cash married Mozelle Starr in 1944. They have one daughter, Charlette, who married Johnny Powers.

Dee Cash was married to Johnny Starr in the summer of 1945. Johnny and Dee had two sons, Kelly and Earnie. Earnie drowned in Oklahoma, June 10, 1961.

Ima Jean Cash married Borton Beck. They have one daughter, Mrs. Vickie Byfield who lives in Tulsa OK. She and her husband have two daughters, Randa and Amanda. Their son and his wife live in Tulsa also.

Mary Elsie Cash married Johnny Atterberry of Ralls. Johnny enlisted in the Navy at 14, giving his age as 17. He served four years in W.W.II. When he got out he received his papers that he had been drafted into the Army. So that called for him to reenlist in the U.S. Navy.

Mary and Johnny had six children, three sons and three daughters. They all reside in OK. The boys are Johnny Wayne, Duke and Dee Dee. Johnny Wayne is married to Dale and they have one daughter. Duke is married to Marilyn and they have one son and one daughter. Dee Dee is single and a college student in OK.

Their three daughters are Rita, married to Allen Manning, Connie, married to Jack Miles, and Kriste, a student in Pawhuka Junior High School.

E.D. and Fannie Cash had two sons and three sons-in-law to serve in WW II. Ross, Dee Cash, Borton Beck, Travis Sursa, Johnny Atterberry.
