It is said that when life begins, it is like an open book with many blank pages. Each day as we live, our deeds are recorded page by page until we close our eyes in death and await that great getting up morning.

The pages of this book began for Lula Mae Dec. 15, 1922 in Brazos County, TX when she was born to Lewis Carrodine and Mamie Watson BAINES. She met and married Percy CARR on Dec. 27, 1940. They moved to Crosbyton, TX in search of work. Lula became a member of Galilee Baptist Church. She sang in the choir and was president of the Mission Society. She was a homemaker and lived in the Crosbyton area for sixty years.

The final chapter of Lula Mae´s book was closed Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999. She left to cherish her memory her husband; six sons, William of Lancaster, TX, Percy, Jr. of DeSoto, TX, David of Dallas, TX, Rayford of New Bedford, MS, Lewis of Crosbyton, TX and Charles of Dallas, TX; four daughters, Ollie Horn of Childress, TX, Emma Coppage of Crosbyton, TX, Lela Mae Ross of Chattanooga, TN and Minette Carr of Crosbyton, TX; five brothers, Major McBride of Detroit, MI, Nickles Baines, Charles Baines, Columbus Baines and Willie Baines, all of Houston, TX; two sisters, Cora Brown and Lucille Scott, both of Houston, TX; 27 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held for Lula Mae on Thursday, August 26, 1999 at eleven o´clock in the First Baptist Church in Crosbyton, TX with Rev. Joe Horn officiating. Pallbearers were Jessie Johnson, Edward Coppage, Jr., Wendell Carr, Embry Carr, Percy Carr III, Cory Johnson, Clarence Ross, Jr., Quinton Carr, Goree Carr, Jermile Carr. Assisting with the service were Pastor Blocker, Sister Phillips and Sister E. Wiley.

Obituary

Services for Lula Mae Carr, 76, of Crosbyton were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at Crosbyton First Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Horn officiating.

Burial was in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

She died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at IHS Hospital in Lubbock.

She married Percy Carr on Dec. 27, 1940, in Brazos County.

She was a member of the Galilee Baptist Church in Crosbyton where she sang in the choir and was president of the Missions Society. She was a homemaker. She had lived in the Crosbyton area for 60 years.

Survivors include her husband, Percy Carr of Crosbyton; six sons, William Carr of Lancaster, TX, Percy Carr of Desoto, TX, David Carr of New Bedford, MA, Lewis Carr of Crosbyton and Charles Carr of Dallas; four daughters, Ollie Horn of Childress, Emma Coppage of Crosbyton, Lela Mae Ross of Chattanooga, TN, Minette Carr of Crosbyton; five brothers, Major McBride of Detroit, MI., Nickles Banes, Charles Banes, Columbus Banes, and Willie Banes, all of Houston; two sisters, Cora Bron and Lucille Scott, both of Houston; 27 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Pall Bearers were grandsons, Jessie Johnson, Edward Coppage, Jr., Wendell Carr, Embry Carr, Percy Carr, III, Cory Johnson, Clarence Ross, Jr., Quinton Carr, Goree Carr, and Jermile Carr.

Percy and Lula Mae Carr of Crosbyton were honored by their children Wednesday, July 4, 1991, with a 50th Wedding Anniversary Reception from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Crosbyton Senior Citizens Center in Crosbyton. The couple pledged their vows December 27, 1940.

Approximately seventy guests greeted the honored couple during the evening. The Carr´s children who hosted the event were: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Horn of Childress, TX; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Coppage of Crosbyton, TX Mr. and Mrs. Howard Carr of Lancaster, TX; Percy Carr of Lancaster, TX; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ross of Chattanooga, TN; Minette Carr of Crosbyton, TX; Louis Carr of Crosbyton, TX; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carr of Crosbyton,TX; Rayford Carr of Boston, MA; and David Carr of Dallas, TX.
