  Military graveside services for Melvin J. "Tugin" Boggs, Jr., 70, of Lubbock were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Crosbyton Cemetery with Rev. Lester Griffin, pastor of the Crosbyton First Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial was in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

He died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Covenant Medical Center. He was born Feb. 22, 1932, in Wolfe City, TX.

He married Melba Shearer April 4, 1975, in Clovis, NM.

He was raised in Crosbyton and attended Crosbyton schools. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church. He owned and operated Melvin Boggs Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning in Lubbock. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, and the National Rifle Association.

He moved to Lubbock in 1970 from Shallowater. He had lived in Hereford. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by a stepson, Darryl Lemon, on Aug. 17, 1999.

Survivors include his wife, Melba Boggs of Lubbock; four sons, Melvin Duane Boggs and his wife, Kenda, of Big Spring; Lawrence Boggs and his wife, Staci, of Lubbock; Darrell Boggs and his wife, Sherri, of Elizabethtown, CO; Scotty Boggs and his wife, Tonya, of Idalou; two stepsons, J.B. and Calvin Lemon, both of Idalou; one stepdaughter, Diann Lemon of Lubbock; one brother, C.W. "Chock" Boggs of Farmington, NM; one sister, Mary Ann Phillips of Andrew; 18 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
