Obituary

Lewis H. Benton, a well-known Crosbyton businessman, was claimed by death about 5 a.m. Monday in Methodist Hospital in Lubbock following a lengthy illness. He was 64.

Mr. Benton had undergone surgery last week.

Memorial services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Curt with the Rev.Bobby Rine, pastor, officiating.

Interment was made in Crosbyton Cemetery, under direction of Adams Funeral Home.

Mr. Benton was born March 16, 1916 in Nocona. The lifelong Crosbyton area resident was married June 4, 1957 to Grace Van Horn in Lubbock.

A veteran of World War II, serving in the Army, Mr. Benton was in the abstract and real estate business. He served as veterans service officer for Crosby County.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Crosbyton Masonic Lodge #1020, Lubbock Scottish Rite, and Khiva Temple. He was a past worshipful master of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Grace; three daughters, Judy Higginbotham of Crosbyton, Angela Martinousky of St. Louis, Mo., and Barbara Van Horn of Houston; one sister, Mrs. Fred Campbell of Ruidoso, NM; and five grandchildren.

CROSBYTON (Special) - Services for Grace Benton, 73, of Crosbyton will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lester Griffin, pastor, officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Johnnie Williams of Lubbock.

Burial will be in the Crosbyton Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home.

She died at 1:50 a.m. Saturday in Lubbock´s Methodist Hospital after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Houston and she married Lewis H. Benton in 1957 in Lubbock. He died in 1980. She was a housewife. She moved from Lubbock to Crosbyton in 1957. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Van Horn of Houston, Judy Higginbotham of Lubbock and Angela Martinovsky of St. Louis, Mo.; a brother, Edward A. Unsworth Jr. of Conroe; two sisters, Yvonne Griffin of Houston and Alma Camp of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
