Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Mae Newkirk, 57, of Floydada were conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church in Floydada. Dr. Floyd C. Bradley, pastor, officiated and was assisted by Hollis Payne, a Floydada Baptist minister.
Burial was made in Cone Cemetery.
Mrs. Newkirk was the wife of W.R. "Shorty" Newkirk, meat market manager at George´s Super Market in Crosbyton.
She succumbed at 3 a.m. Monday in Methodist Hospital in Lubbock. Mrs. Newkirk had been ill since December and entered the hospital about a month ago.
Born in the McCoy Community of Floyd County, she was married to W.R. Newkirk on Feb. 18, 1944, in Commerce. They moved to Floyd County in 1951 from Commerce. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Roy Newkirk of the home; two sisters, Mrs. H.L. Bishop Sr. of Littlefield an Mrs. W.A. Latham of Dumas; and two brothers, George E. Berry of Kerrville and B.L. Berry Sr. of Floydada.

Funeral services for Walter R. (Shorty) Newkirk, 69, of Sulphur Springs, were at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Sulphur Springs funeral chapel. Graveside rites were at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cone Cemetery.
A longtime Floydada resident, Newkirk formerly was employed as a butcher at George´s Super Market.
