World War II Veteran
Services for Doris DuBose Houchin, 78, of Ralls will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the Lorenzo First Baptist Church with Rev. Wes Collins and Dr. Jerry Golden officiating. Burial will follow in the Cone Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.
Doris passed away Friday, March 27, 2009 in Ralls. She was born July 6, 1930 in Terry County to the late Lee P. and Cleo (Cleveland) DuBose. On March 22, 1950 she married Wayland Houchin in Ralls. A resident of Crosby County most of her life, Doris was a member of the Lorenzo First Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery for 52 years.
She was a graduate of Ralls High School and Draughn's Business School, and worked for 42 years at Security Bank in Ralls. Active in 4-H, Doris received the Spur Clip Leadership Award in 1969 and was a member of the Crosby County Dahlia Club.
Survivors include her husband, Wayland of Ralls; two sons and their wives, Eddy and Karen Houchin of Crosby County, Chris and Becky Houchin of Breckenridge; a daughter and her husband, Tena and Byron Brunson of Canyon; a brother, G. L. DuBose of Breckenridge; a sister, Zelma Lee Williams of Fairfield; six grandchildren, Angela and Steven Bruhjell, Stephen Brunson, Erin and Keri Houchin, Daniel Houchin, Tyler Houchin, Trent Houchin; and four great-grandchildren, Abigail Houchin, Elijah Houchin, David Bruhjell and Shelby Bruhjell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday at Adams Funeral Home in Ralls.
The family suggests memorials to the Lorenzo First Baptist Church or Odyssey Health Care, 4601 66th Street, Suite E, Lubbock, Texas 79414.

On May 6, 2010 Wayland Houchin went to sleep to wake up in front of his LORD and SAVIOR and hearing HIM say "Well done my good and faithful servant enter into your eternal reward." Watching on will be his parents, Sam and Ruby Houchin, his wife Doris, sister Lois, brothers Sam and Danley, and other friends and loved ones. After some fellowship Wayland will be lead to his new mansion that was made just for him, perfect in every way. One of the joys that he will be looking forward to will being able to participate in the future greeting of surviving family members, his son, Eddy and wife, Karen and daughter, Tena, all of Crosby County and son, Chris and wife, Becky of Breckenridge, his 6 grandchildren, Angela and husband, Steven, Erin and wife, Keri, Tyler, Daniel, Stephen and Trent, 4 great-grand children, Abbie, Eli, David and Shelby, sister Mary Eastburn of Grove, Oklahoma, brother James Houchin and wife, Sally of Petersburg, niece Karen Barnes of Oklahoma, along with a multitude of family and friends, including Melissa Reese and Byron Brunson.
When asked what are the two main things he longed for, he said he prayed to be able to be with Doris until her last days here on earth and that his children and their family would join him in heaven by all becoming Christians. After Doris passed he said that "My two main prayers have been accomplished and I am now ready for whatever happens." Wayland has said many times that what I did in the army during World War II at Okinawa, and being able to come home is all due to God and He gets all the glory and honor because He did it all! He also wants all of you to one day join him in eternal peace and joy!
Our mansion-warming for Wayland will be held on Monday, May 10, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lorenzo, conducted by Adams Funeral Home of Ralls. Leading in the mansion-warming will be Dr. Jerry Golden and Bro. Wes Collins. Burial, with military honors, of his earthly body will follow at the Cone Cemetery until Rapture. Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home in Ralls on Sunday, May 9, 2010 from 4 to 5 PM. We request any memorial gifts be given to First Baptist Church, 211 Tyler Ave., Lorenzo, Tx 79343 or VistaCare Hospice Foundation, 1010 Slide Road, Lubbock, Tx 79416.
