Biography

On January 12, 1956, Mark Bradley Ashley was born to Bill and Grace (Sawyer) Ashley in Crosby County, Texas.

Mark was the grandson of Earl and Ethel (Blassingame) Sawyer of Cone. Great grandson of John C. and Dora (Cole) Sawyer of Cone, and Robert Franklin and Martha LuCindy (Calvery) Blassingame of Cone.

Paternal Grandparents were: Kirby L. Ashley, and Eva M. (Townsend) Ashley,of Ralls. Pateral Great Grandparents: Austin Ashley and Ida (Terry) Ashley of VanZandt County. Maternal Great Grandparents: Lite Washington Townsend and Mae (Horton) Townsend, Canton.

Mark attended Farmer, Lorenzo and Ralls Schools, graduating in 1974 from Ralls High School. Mark enjoyed riding horses with his sister Chris. Mark had a passion for cars and began working at Al Cooper Motor Co. while he was in high school. After graduation he worked at Oden Chevrolet in Floydada, then for a time in his own body shop in Floydada. Mark also loved Motorcycles, especially racing them. He married in 1983 and a daughter, Jennifer, was born in 1984.

Mark's life changed after he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He fought hard to survive for over four years, but on June 19, 1989 he and the Lord decided his battle was over and it was time to come home. My Dad is buried in Cone Cemetery among 18 other members of his family. He would have been proud when Kalli, his granddaughter was born. He is loved and missed by many and will never be forgotten.

Obituary

RALLS (Special) — Services for Mark Ashley, 33, of Ralls will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ned Hicks of First Christian Church in Spur officiating.

Also officiating will be Dennis May, minister of Emma Church of Christ in Ralls.

Burial will be in Cone Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home.

He died at 8:10 a.m. Monday at his home after a lengthy illness. Justice of the Peace Clyde Davis ruled natural causes.

He was born in Crosbyton and had lived in Crosby County all of his life. He was a metal worker and had worked for Al Cooper motors, Oden Chevrolet, Hammonds Sheet Metal and Don Hardy Race Cars. He was a member of First Christian Church in Spur and the Floydada Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Nicole Ashley of Ralls; his parents, Bill and Grace Ashley of Ralls; a sister, Chris McGowen of Floydada; his maternal grandmother, Ethel Sawyer of Floydada; and his paternal grandmother, Eva Ashley of Lubbock.
