Edward Watkins photoEdward Sonny Boy Watkins passed from this life on Saturday, June 8, 2013. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 14, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. A service to celebrate his life of 84 years is scheduled at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, in Lake Ridge Chapel followed by a graveside service at Lorenzo Cemetery.

Edward Watkins was born on Aug. 19, 1928, in Rusk County, Texas, to Curtis and Zelner Watkins. He married Linda Yvonne Reese on May 12, 1985, in Easton, Texas. Edward was a hard working Christian man who loved the Lord and lived his life, walking in faith. A member of Rock City Church, Edward worshiped regularly, loved listening to gospel music and talking about the Lord, and had a true servant's heart. Edward loved family time with his wife, children, and grandchildren and he never met a stranger who was a stranger for very long. He was a friend to everyone and was the heart of his family. Edward loved to bake and was well known for his delicious pound cakes and tea cakes. He also enjoyed riding out to the country to feed his horses, watching westerns and just visiting with friends over a good cup of coffee. If there was one legacy Edward would want to leave for his family it would be the encouragement to live for the Lord and to serve Him all of our days.

Edward's survivors include his wife Linda; children, Nina Mooring, Elizabeth Dill and husband Raymond, Glorene Watkins, Bobby Watkins and wife Esther, Jeremy Watkins, Misty Watkins, Joshua Watkins and wife Maricia; 20 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ocie Watkins and Jean Wilborn. Edward was preceded in death by his sons, Curtis Edward Watkins, who died on March 10, 2008, and Jodey Watkins, who died on Sept. 25, 1995.
