Obituary

Memorial services for David (Pete) Sykes Sr., a well known Crosbyton resident for almost half a century, were at 4 p.m. Saturday at Galilee Baptist Church. The Rev. Clarence Johnson officiated.

Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery.

Mr. Sykes was 85.

He was claimed by death at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in Crosbyton Clinic Hospital after a prolonged illness.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Sykes was a City of Crosbyton employee for 26 years. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.

A Brenham native, Pete Sykes moved to Crosbyton in 1936 from Waco.

He is survived by his wife, Dottie; three sons, David Sykes Jr. of Lubbock, Alvis Sykes of Anaheim, CA, and Earsie Sykes of Garden Grove, CA; a stepson Ivory Scott of Los Angeles, CA; one daughter, Pauline Burnett of Stanton, CA; three sisters, Lena Alexander of Crosbyton, Annie Adams and Dollie Jones, both of Monahans; 17 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

CROSBYTON (Special) —- Services for Dottie Sykes, 85, of Crosbyton will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. H. Phillips, pastor, and the Rev. Billy Wiley, pastor of Ralls Shiloh Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sykes died Saturday night in Crosbyton Hospital after an illness.

She married David "Pete" Sykes in 1932 in Hill County. He died on April 10, 1985. She moved to Crosbyton in 1945 from Hillsboro. She was a homemaker and member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, David Jr. of Lubbock, Alvis of Santa Ana, CA, and Earsie of Anaheim, CA; a daughter, Pauline Burnett of Stanton, CA; a stepson, Ivory Scott of Los Angeles; a brother, Jerry Hamilton of Fort Worth; two sisters, Hester Dickson of Waco and Mary McCreary of Midland; and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
