Junior Brown photoJunior R. Brown, 63, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on Jan. 30, 2013. Junior was born on July 16, 1950, to the parentage of Washington and Manda Brown. Junior was the eldest son of eight children.

Junior graduated high school from the Roosevelt school system in the 60s. After high school, he attended McMurry College in Abilene, Texas, on a football scholarship. There he received a B.S. degree in math with a minor in physical education. He worked on his master's for a couple years, but never finished after starting employment for AT&T in April of 1972. Junior married Betty Middleton in March of 1980, and to this union three children were born. Junior's career with AT&T started in Abilene, Texas, for four years as a maintenance lineman, frame foreman, and installation foreman. Then, he moved to Lubbock, Texas, for four years as a chief switchman, installation foreman and chief deskman. From Lubbock, he moved to Plainview, Texas, and worked for 12 years as plant foreman. While in Plainview he was involved with church and community, and was also city councilman from 1984 to 1989 and president of Region's Advisory Council on Human Rights. He was also president of the Plainview Optimist Club and president of the John Russ Worm Society (education for youth). He became commissioner of Plainview Youth Football League and youth minister at Church of Christ. From Plainview, he moved to Midland, Texas, in June 1989 until Dec. 20, 2010, as the AT&T manager I/R. Junior was sincerely involved in church activities and started preaching God's word in 1989. His most distinguished and cherished work was teaching a youth Bible class at his church-home, Northside Church of Christ. Junior's message to his family and friends is, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Cor. 15-58 - KJV).

Junior was preceded in death by his brother, Hosea.

Junior leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Betty; three children, Betty Jo, Diane and Nicholas; his siblings, Seidah, Johnny, Della, Mariam, Gilbert and Curtis; seven grandchildren, Dany'l, Dorian, Darian, Tracy, Tia, Tyler and Jonae; two great-grandchildren, Jadedyn and Akaya; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
