MRS. AMANDA SUSAN SIMPSON
Aged Resident of Eden Buried Here Monday
Mrs. Amanda Susan Simpson, 87 years and 23 days old, died
Sunday morning at her home here after a short illness. She was born in
Tennessee, and came to Texas about 50 years ago. She had lived here for about
ten years ago. her husband died here six years ago, and she was laid to rest
beside him. he was buried in his Confederate uniform, and she in the Confederate
Mothers uniform, which she had made herself. Burial was in the Eden cemetery
Monday afternoon, with the funeral service was conducted at the Methodist church
by Rev. C. L. Nicholson. She had been a member of the Methodist church for 40
years, and although unable to the an active part, she was in constant contact
with the affairs of the congregation and a devout christian.
Deceased is survived by two brothers, one, A. S. Bishop,
living here. There are four sons, two of them present, one being J. N. Simpson,
who resided here until two years ago. A granddaughter, Mrs. Jewel Waites, lived
with and cared for Mrs. Simpson the last several months.
Pallbearers were: G. Y. Lee, Walter Latham, A. J. Green,
Ennis Smith, S. H. Haynes, and M. A. Valentine. Chas. H. Latham was funeral
director in charge of arrangements.
