JOHN R. ROBBINS

J. R. Robbins, Pioneer Sheepman, Dies here

After a lingering illness of many months, death came to John R. Robbins at the family home in Eden last Friday.
Mr. Robbins, who was 73 years of age was one of the few and rapidly dwindling handful of men who really helped the West grow up. He was born in Coryell County, but at the age of 22 he came to the Ft. McKavett country and began in the ranching industry, and owned extensive ranch properties in Sutton County at the time of his death. He was married, in 1886, to Miss Lorana Champie, at ft. McKavett, and to them were born five children, four of whom survive, with his wife. they are Edward Robbins, of Campwood, Mrs. Luella Alverson, Eden, R. D Robbins, Eden, and Mrs. R. R. Ellis, Menard.
Mr. Robbins moved to Eden about six years ago, though he had a wide acquaintance here for many years before removing here. In the few years this has been his home he became the friend of everyone who was fortunate enough to know him, a man whose word needed no bond and who held the respect of everyone. Ill health had handicapped his activity for more than a year, and for five months he had been bedfast, attributable to dropsy.
Funeral services were held at his old home at Ft. McKavett, with Homer A. Gay, of the Church of Christ, long-time friend of the family and former pastor, conducting. Deceased had been faithful and devoted member of that church for many years. More than a dozen cars filled with the mourning friends and relatives made the trip from Eden to the resting place as a token of their respect which is shared by the whole town.
Burial arrangements were in charge of Eden Hardware Undertaking department.
