MRS. J. W. HURT

   The subject of this sketch was born March 25, 1854, near Decatur in Morgan county, Alabama. her maiden name being Lucy Emeline Ratliff. Death called her to her reward at 12:10 am July 25, 1930 at her home in the Fairview community, after a sickness of several days.
    At the age of three years she moved with her parents to Texas and on January 4, 1877 was married to Mr. John Wesley Hurt in Lamar county. Rev. Owens of the Missionary Baptist church officiated a the wedding.
    In 1890 the family moved from Lamar to Kerr county where they lived for two years then to Llano county for a ten years residence, coming to Concho county in 1901.
    To this union there were born seven children four girls and three boys. One girl died at the age of four and one half years and one son, Charlie died at Henrietta, Oklahoma in 1921. Her husband preceded her to the great beyond by about seven years, having died in Paint Rock in 1923.
    Surviving her are five children Marion Hurt and Joe Hurt Paint Rock, Mrs. Katie Williamson, Long Beach, California, Mrs. Sallie Dalton, Millersview; Mrs. Nettie Shugart, Mankin. One sister, Mrs. Abbie Piper of Harold, Wilbarger county; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. All of her children and grandchildren were here for the funeral.
    Early in life Mrs. hurt was Converted and joined the Missionary Baptist Church, to which she remained steadfast and loyal to her death.
    Rev. R. R. Cumbie of Melvin was called to conduct the funeral, in which he heaped deserved coniums and spoke words of comfort to the bereaved ones. Rev. J. B. Adams, the local pastor, made appropriate remarks adapted to the occasion.
    In the passing of Mrs. Hurt the community and county lost a very excellent lady who was loved and respected by all who knew her, and adored by those nearest to her by ties of nature.
    Interment was made in the Paint Rock cemetery, where she was lain beside her husband, and pretty flowers were strewn over the mound in token of the love and esteem in which the deceased was held.

SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. HURT
West Texas Pioneer, 76, Succumbed at Home Near Paint Rock

Paint Rock, July 25, Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy Emeline Hurt, 76 years old and a resident of West Texas for the last 40 years, were held at 5 o'clock this evening here. She was a resident of the Fairview community in this county.
    Mrs. Hurt was born in 1854 in Alabama and came to Texas at the age of 3. In 1877 she was married to J. W. Hurt in Lamar county. After living in Kerr and Llano counties, the family in 1901 came to Concho County, where Mr. Hurt died about 7 years ago.
    Mrs. Hurt died Wednesday at her home. The funeral service was at the Baptist church, and was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Cumbie of Melvin, assisted by the Rev. J. B. Adams, local pastor.
    Surviving are five children, all of them were present for the funeral: Marion Hurt, Paint Rock; Mrs. Katie Williamson, Long Beach California; Mrs. Sallie Dalton and Mrs. Nettie Shugart, Millersview; and Joe hurt, Paint Rock; also by 13 grandchildren and by a sister living in Wilbarger county.
