Homer Hafford, 81, was dead on
arrival at the De Leon
Hospital Thursday at 5:55 p.m. (28 Feb 1980). Services were held
Saturday at
2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Charles McClure, pastor,
officiated. Burial was
in the Downing Cemetery, under the direction of Nowlin Funeral Home.
Born June 22, 1898, in Navarro
County, he was a retired
butcher and grocery man. He married Opal Nabors December 16, 1917, in
De Leon.
He was a Methodist. He had lived in and around De Leon since he was
eight years
old.
His wife preceded him in death in
1965. Survivors include
a son, Derroll of Waco; three brothers, Alfred of Downing, Hollie and
Nomer,
both of De Leon; a sister, Emma Vaughan of Durant, Oklahoma; two
grandchildren;
and 4 great grandchildren.
The music was furnished by the
Methodist Church choir and
friends.
Pallbearers were Alvin Hafford,
Robert Johnson, Jim
Nabors, John Nabors, Emmett Locke, and Claude Underhill.

Maude Hafford, 85, a lifelong
resident of De Leon, passed
away Monday, July 18, 1983, at 4:05 a.m. in the De Leon Hospital after
a brief
illness.
She was born January 25, 1898, in
Comanche County to the
late Henry and Sally Heath. On December
16, 1914, she married Hollie Hafford. He preceded her in death June 5,
1982.
She was a member of the De Leon First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
July 19, at 2:00 p.m.
in the De Leon First United Methodist Church with Brother Charles
McClure of
Ennis officiating. Music was by C. L. Mohon, Jr., Al Strassner, Marvin
Holdridge, C. G. Morton, and Claude Wayne Underhill.
Pallbearers were Bobby Winkles,
Glenn Peoples, Ray Harvey,
Emmett Locke, I. C. Donegan, and Bobby Gayle Winkles.
Burial was in the Downing Cemetery

daughter, Jimmie Lois
Hafford of De Leon. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joylene,

sister, Flo Appleby, and four brothers, Blake, Arthur, Milton, and

De Leon hospital. He was 76.

County January 1, 1918,
where he was a lifelong resident.
He was member of the Assembly of
God Church.

March 21, 1952. She was a member of the Graham Street Church of Christ
in
Stephenville.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald
Hanson and Joy Dean
Hanson, both of the Downing community; three daughters, Elizabeth Smith
of
Euless, June Rumple of Stephenville, and Faye Moore of Fort Worth; two
brothers, Robert Howard and Frank Lancaster, both of De Leon; three
sisters,
Stella Wolf of Hamlin, Alma Owens of Wichita Falls, and Rachel Hamilton
of De
Leon; 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two
daughters, three
brothers, and three sisters.

member of the First United Methodist Church of Tomball, a veteran of
World War
II serving in the Army Air Corps in Africa and Italy, and member of
Tomball
Lodge No. 1096.
Survivors include his wife, Maudie
Hasley of Tomball; a
daughter, Syleta (Mrs. Howell) Jones of Pasadena; a sister, Lillie
(Mrs.
Johnny) Allen of El Paso; three grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; two
nephews; and a niece. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl

Cumbie O. Hatley, 67, resident of the
Downing Community for
many years before moving to Comanche eleven years ago passed away here
Sunday
following an illness of less than 24 hours. He had worked most of the
day
Saturday preceding his death the next day at 5 p.m.
Funeral services were held for Mr.
Hatley Monday afternoon
at the Downing Methodist Church with Rev. J. D. Smoot, Comanche
Methodist
minister, and Rev. Arthur Johnson, pastor of the First Baptist Church,
Comanche, in charge.
Pallbearers were W. C. McKlesky,
George H. Loudermilk, Lee
Spruill, Tiller Yates, Roy Thomas, and Elzo Brinson.
Mr.
Hatley, who was considered one of Comanche
County’s best citizens, was born June 6, 1882 in Goodwater,
Alabama. He came to
Texas in 1904, settling in the Downing Community where he lived until
after the

wife and some eleven years ago when
he came to Comanche to make
his home with his daughter, Mrs. Ronald Dillin.
Mr. Hatley was married June 25, 1907,
to Miss Pearl Beaty,
who passed away December 5, 1937. They were the parents of two children
who
survive: Arl Hatley of Fort Worth and Mrs. (Larue) Dillin; also
surviving are
the following grandchildren, John Arl Hatley, Jr. and Patricia Hatley
of Fort
Worth, and Neta Fay and George Dillin, Jr. of Comanche, and by two
following
sisters, Mrs. J. H. Holmes of De Leon
and Mrs. John Shipp of Alabama and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hatley was converted early in
life and united with the
Methodist Church.
Burial: November 6, 1949, Downing
Cemetery, Downing,
Comanche County, Texas.

U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a resident of Lubbock since 1980, moving
from
Wichita Falls. He moved to Wichita Falls from Abilene. He was a member
of the
First Baptist Church in Jacksboro.

4, 1985. Sarah was born August 23, 1903 in Comanche County, Texas to

Frank and Eula Powers Wilson. She was married to Claude Hulsey on
October 2,
1921 in Comanche. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1975. She had
lived in
the Downing area most all of her life, being a member of the Downing
Baptist
Church.

was a member of Chapter 693 Order of Eastern Star and the First United

married Ben
Hulsey in Comanche County on April 10, 1937. Mrs. Hulsey was a
homemaker and
had resided in Comanche County area all of her life. She was a
Protestant.

March 21, 1000 at the Downing Cemetery. Rev. Jackie Auvenshine

Mr. Lewis died at 4:05 a.m.
Saturday, March 28, at
Diagnostic Hospital in Houston.
He was born April 15, 1936 in
Gorman and had lived in
Houston the past two years. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his mother, Arbella Lewis of De Leon; a
son, Ronnie Lewis of Houston, a daughter, Belinda Spear of Dallas; a
brother,
L. T. Lewis of De Leon; a sister, Nina Davidson of Midland; and four
grandchildren.

Vernon Lewis, 33, Comanche truck
driver, died at 10:00 o’clock
Thursday afternoon, June 14, 1984, in Comanche Community Hospital after
an
extended illness.
Graveside services for Mr. Lewis
were held at 2:00 o’clock
Sunday afternoon, June 17, in Downing Cemetery. Officiating was Tommy
Johnson,
minister of the Church of Christ, N. Pearl, Comanche.
Mr. Lewis, son of Milton and Helen
Campbell Lewis, was
born October 30, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri. He married Ginger Evans
on June
27 in Kirksville, Missouri. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Ginger
of Comanche, three
sons, Vernon Lee Lewis, Jr. William Joseph Lewis, and Milton Stanley
Lewis all
of Jacksboro; his parents, Milton and Helen Lewis of Green Forest,
Arkansas;
one brother, Eugene Lewis of Kirksville, Missouri; and one sister,
Wanda Ayes
of California.

Funeral services for Jessie James
Logan, 59, of De Leon,
were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 1982, at Nowlin Funeral Home in
De Leon.
Rev. Jimmy King officiated. Burial
was in Downing
Cemetery.
Mr. Logan died at 10 p.m. Tuesday,
June 2, at the Veterans
Administration Hospital in Temple.
Born February 1, 1923, in Hollis
Springs, Arkansas, he had
lived in De Leon most of his life. He was a laborer and a veteran of
World War
II.
Survivors include two brothers,
Ethan A. Logan of De Leon,
and Elmer Gay Logan of Wolf City; a sister, Eva Lee Ray of Wolf City;
and
several nieces and nephews.

DON WILSON LOUDERMILK
Don Wilson Loudermilk, 80, died
Sunday, November 13, 1994,
at his residence in De Leon (Downing), Texas.
Funeral services were held Monday,
October 14, at 2:00
p.m. in the De Leon Church of Christ. Glenn
Boyd, assisted by A. C. Morris officiated.
Interment was in the Downing
Cemetery under the direction
of Nowlin Funeral Home.
Mr. Loudermilk was born October 9,
1914 in Downing, Texas.
On October 7, 1933 he married Nathilee Boyd of De Leon.
He had lived in the De Leon area
all his life.
Survivors are his wife, Nathilee
Loudermilk of Downing;
one daughter, Freda Van Zandt of Downing; two grandsons and three
great-grandchildren.

EARNEY V. LOUDERMILK
Earney V. Loudermilk, 70, died
Saturday, April 18, at his
Downing home, of an apparent heart attack.
Funeral services for Mr. Loudermilk
were conducted Tuesday
afternoon, April 21, in the De Leon Church of Christ.
Burial was in the Downing Cemetery.
Mr. Loudermilk was born January 15,
1894 at Downing,
Comanche County.
He was married June 12, 1920 to
Miss Oma Garner.
A lifetime resident of Downing, Mr.
Loudermilk was a
member of the Downing Church of Christ. He was a veteran of World War I.
Mr. Loudermilk is survived by his
wife of Downing; a
daughter, Mrs. Aline Quenon of Athens, Greece; two sons, Roy Lee
Loudermilk of
Goldthwaite, and Earney Gayle Loudermilk of Abilene; five brothers,
Murray
Loudermilk of Brownwood, Lee Loudermilk of Comanche, and Roy, Houston
and Don
Loudermilk, all of Downing; two sisters, Mrs. Noble Lesley and Mrs.
Alfred
Hafford, both of Downing; and five grandchildren.

ELLEN EMELINE LOUDERMILK
Mrs. Ellen Emeline Loudermilk, wife
of the late W. T. Loudermilk,
died at her home a mile north of Downing at 11:30 o’clock p.m.,
Thursday,
February 7, 1928. The cause of her death was paralysis. She had been in
failing
health for three years but had only been seriously ill for three weeks
prior to
her death.
Mrs. Loudermilk was born March 3,
1866, being not quite 62
years of age. She was borned in the Downing community and spent her
life there.
Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Vol Wilson, the Wilson homestead being
two or
three miles east of Downing.
W. T. Loudermilk, her husband, has
been dead for six and a
half years. He was for many years a prominent figure not only in the
community
in which he lived, but filled positions of prominence in the state and
at one
time aspired to a seat in the national congress.
Seven children survive this good
woman, six sons and a
daughter. They are: Mrs. Lloyd Boyett, De Leon, Rt 4; F.
V., O.V., A. B., W. E., W. F., and G. J.
There are nine grandchildren. Sisters of the deceased woman are Mrs.
John
Nabors, De Leon; Mrs. Henry Beaty, Loraine; Mrs. Walter Loudermilk,
Downing;
Mrs. Jim Bishop, Downing, Mrs. Joe Griffith, Santa Anna. Brothers are
Henry,
John and Dave Wilson, all of nearby Downing and Van Dyke.
Mrs.
Loudermilk was a member of the Church of Christ
for many years. Eld. Moss of Comanche conducted the |
