J. M. Hursh made a business trip to Petrolia this afternoon.

James A. Maddox, traveling representative of the Dallas News is in the city.

M. Davis, a prominent insurance man of Seymour was here today on business.

George Wigham returned today from Harrold, where he had been on business.

Jo A. P. Dickson, a prominent real estate man of Seymour, was here on business today.

Mrs. C. J. Hursh left this afternoon for Dundee to visit Dr. D. Meredith and family.

Judge  S.  H.  Hodges  of  Corpus  Christi,  arrived  in the city this afternoon to look
after business matters.

Mrs.  George  L.  Mater  returned  this  morning  from  Kell,  Oklahoma,  where  she had
been visiting Mrs. W. D. Hyer and family and Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Maricle.

P.  C.  Maricle came in last night from a ten days visit to relatives and friends at his
old home in Mill Shoals, Illinois.

Mrs.  J.  C.  Cunningham  and little son of Childress arrived in the city this afternoon
and are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. N. M. Curry and family.

Ed.     Orr,  representing  the  Continental  Gin  Company,  who  will  make  this  city
his  headquarters,  has  arrived  here  with  his  family  to  make  this city his home.
Mr.  Orr  succeeds  R. C. Malone as the representative of the gin company at this place.
Mr. Malone having been transferred to Abilene, where his home is.

T.  M.  Sims,  the  barber,  who  has  worked for L. H. Lawler for the past two and one-
half  years  left  town today for Frederick, Oklahoma, where he goes to seek employment.
Mr.  Sims  has  a  lease on a building and will return to Wichita Falls and open a first
class  shop  the  1st  of  May  and  he  hopes  that his many friends and customers will
remember him at that time. His family will remain in this city.

Mr.  and  Mrs.  G.  W.  Kemp  of  Sedalia,  Mo. are in the city visiting Mr. and Mrs. J.
W. Parker. Mr. Kemp is a brother of Mrs. Parker

J.  A.  Kemp,  who went to New York city ??? ten days ago on a business trip is expected
to return this week in time to be present at the Chamber of Commerce banquet tonight.

O.  P.  Morse  of  Medina,  Ohio,  arrived here yesterday for a visit to his brother, G.
W. Morse. It was the first time the two brothers had met in twenty-five years.

Seth  Mayfield  formerly  of  this  city,  but  now  located  in Fort Worth, where he is
connected with  the  engineering  department  of the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad, was
in the city today on business.

in this city, looking after business.

Mrs. E. L. Wehritin? of St. Louis is in the city visiting her mother, Mrs. Flint Murphy.

Mr.  and  Mrs.  J.  W.  Wilcox  of  Abilene  were  here  today on their return home from
Eastern Tennessee and Virginia where they had been visiting relatives.

R.I.  Burgess  returned  home  today  from Frederick, Oklahoma where he had been to look
after work on the new depot for the Wichita Falls and Northwestern Railway Company.

Mr.  J.  J.  Bates  and  family of Tishamingo, Oklahoma arrived in the city recently and
have  decided  to  make  Wichita  Falls  their future home. Mr. Bates has rented the old
Pickland place from Stearns & Elliott.

A.R.  Fain  of  Richardson  of ?? Georgia arrived in Wichita Falls yesterday for a visit
with  his  brother. J. G. Fain, the real estate man. He has sold his property in Georgia
and may decide to locate in Wichita Falls.

J.  A.  Kemp,  president of the Wichita Fall Railway, the Wichita Falls and Northwestern
and  the  Wichita  Falls  and  Southern  left  today  to represent the interest of these
railroads at the hearing of the ??? proposition by the state railway commission.

W.  D.  Jordan,  federal  cattle  inspector  with headquarters at Quanah was in the city
today on businss.

Judge  C.  B.  Felder  and family are in Kaufman, Texas, where the judge is attending to
legal business.

Miss  Annie  Miller  of  Hereford,  who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. E. W. Morris,
of this city, left for home this afternoon.

W.  Y.  McCune,  auditor and secretary of the Wichita Valley railway company, left today
for Austin on business for the company.

Mr.  G.  M.  Callahan,  the  blacksmith,  presented  this  office  today with one of his
beautiful calendars, for which he has our thanks.

J.  C.  Cunningham,  one of the popular passenger conductors for the Denver on the north
end,  is  in  the  city  in  response  to  a  telegram  from  his  wife, who is visiting
friends here, announcing the serious illness of their little baby.

Mr.  R.  J.  Harris  and  daughter,  Miss Annie May of Fredrick, Okla., were in the city
today. Miss Harris will become a student at St. Mary's Academy of this city.

Mrs.  T.  H.  Huggins  and  children  of  this  city who have been visiting Mrs. Huggins
parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. W. Guilahorn, of this city left for their home this afternoon.

Mr.  Arthur  Johnson  and  sister,  Miss  Elivia of Donovan, Ill., after a very pleasant
visit  with  the  families  of Messrs. Gus Byman, Will Frieberg and other relatives left
for their home this afternoon well pleased with Texas.

Arthur  B.  Huff,  driver for the Wells Fargo express here, yesterday made his first run
as an express messenger, going from this city to Abilene over the Wichita Valley.

Rev.  S.  J.  Thomas  of  Goodnight,  Texas,  was  in  the city today en route home from
Terral, Oklahoma, where he had been conducting a very successful revival.

Conductor  C.  N.  Roberts  of  the  Denver  was in the city yesterday looking after his
property interests  here.  He  has  let to Cox and Snyder, contractors, the contract for
a  handsome  five  room  dwelling  on  Austin  avenue between 8th and 9th streets, which
will cost in the neighborhood of $2,500. Work on the building is now well under way.

Mr.   T.   G.   Stearns,   one   of   the   prosperous   farmers   from Beaver Creek was
transacting business in the city today.

C.  B.  Gorman,  formerly  of this city, but now of Fort Worth, is in the city attending
court and shaking hands with his old friends.

Mr.  W.  C.  Evans of Leonard, who has been visiting his sister, Mrs. Ira Willis of this
city for the past week, returned to her home yesterday.

Mrs.  Craig  Boyd  of  Amarillo, who has been visiting Mr. Boyd's relatives in this city
for the past month, returned to her home this afternoon.

Mrs.  J.  A.  McSpadden,  who  has  been  visiting  her  daughter,  Mrs. T. B. Wilson of
Holliday, returned this afternoon to her home near this city.

Mr.  W.  H.  Holder  and  family,  who  have been living in Iowa Park for several years,
have returned to Wichita Falls and will again make this city their home.

E.W.  Russey,  one  of  the wide awake real estate men of Seymore, was in the city today
on  his  return  home  from  Bowie,  where  he had been to pay the last sad rites to his
mother who died in that city recently.

Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hilburn, who reside two miles northwest of the city are in receipt of
a  telegram  dated  at  Chicago,  announcing  the marriage of their daughter, Miss Pearl
to  J.  Stuart  Blackton,  a  wealthy  business man of New York. They will be at home at
1826 Church avenue, Brooklyn, N. Y. after January 25th.

Judge  C.  B.  Felder  returned  last night from Kaufman, where he had been attending to
legal business.

Miss  Hattie  and  her  brother, Master George Miller, of Fruitland, are in the city the
guest of their friends, Misses Celia and Ruth Stayton.

District  Attorney  P.  A. Martin of Graham arrived today to be ready for the opening of
the criminal docket in the district court next Monday.

Mr.  E.  W.  Morris,  who  is suffering from an attack of rheumatism; will leave tonight
for Marlin, Texas, in hope of gaining some relief at that health resort.

Mrs.  S.  A.  Gorman,  of  Randlett,  Ok.,  is  in the city the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J.
W.  Henderson  from  Charlie,  where  she  had  been  to  see  her  daughter, Mrs. J. M.
Fraubion, who has  been  dangerously  ill  with  typhoid  pneumonia,  but  reports  her
danger  and  is convalescing rapidly.

Mrs.  Robert  Kerr  of  Colorado  Springs,  Colo.,  who  has  been  visiting relative in
Archer  City,  and  Mrs.  A.  H.  Carrigan  of  Wichita  Falls,  left this afternoon for
her home, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. I. W. Hart.

Dr.  J.  F.  Lane,  assistant  corresponding  secretary  of  the  home  mission board of
the  Southern  Baptist  convention  of  Atlanta,  Ga., is the guest of W. F. Fry, pastor
of the Baptist church, and will occupy the pulpit of that church tomorrow morning.

Leonard  Baker,  an  enterprising  young  business  man  of Amarillo, passed through the
city  today  en  route  to  Austin,  where he will be married to Miss Adeline Speegle of
that  city tomorrow. Both of these young people formerly lived in Wichita Falls and have
many friends here that will wish them prosperity and happiness through life.

Mr.  and  Mrs.  J.  S.  Bradford  had  returned home from Henrietta, where they had been

Mrs.  Ethel  Bentley,  of  this  city  left today for Amarillo, where she goes to accept
a position as stenographer in one of the railroad offices in that city.

Mr.  H.  W.  Norwood, one of Vernon's prominent merchants, visited his parents, Rev. and
Mrs. J. M. Norwood of this city yesterday. He left this afternoon for Frederick.

city, returned to their home today.

Mrs.  L.  D.  Rhodes  and  little  daughter left for Clarendon this afternoon where they
will visit Mrs. Rhodes' mother.

Mrs.  L.  M.  Boyd,  who  has  been  visiting  relatives  in  Groesbeck for the past two
months', returned to her home in this city this afternoon.

Mr.  W.  P.  Fry,  pastor  of  the First Baptist church, left this afternoon for Abilene
to attend  a  pastor's  conference.  Rev. Fry will make talks before the conference upon
"The Pastor in His Study" and "The Pastor Among His People."

W.  H.  Cousins,  a  prominent  drug man of Munday, was in the city today and informed a
Times  man  that  he would locate in Wichita Falls in the near future, provided he could
secure a suitable  business  location.  Mr.  Cousins is a young business man of push and
energy,  of which Wichita Falls has many, and he would be a valuable acquisition to this
city.

Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Joyce are visiting in Petrolia.

Mr.  and  Mrs.  Alex  Henderson  and  children  of  Austin  are  here for a visit to Mr.
Henderson's  mother,  Mrs.  M.  T. Henderson and his sister Mrs. A?? Bruce Smith and his
brother, Mr. N. Henderson.

Mr.  C.  J.  Shomaker  of  Thornberry  who  went to Fort Worth a month ago with his son,
James  for  treatment  by  a  specialist,  returned this afternoon. He reports his son's
condition  greatly  improved.  It  will  be  remembered that his son had his back broken
some  time  ago,  caused by a bale of cotton falling on him and his friends here will be
glad to learn that there are still hope for his recovery.

Miss Jessie Moore left this afternoon for a visit with friends at Dundee.

Rev.  R.  F.  Fisher  pastor  of the Methodist Episcopal church of this city, left for a
trip  to  Dallas,  where he went to confer with the architects who are drawing the plans
for  the  proposed  new  church for that denomination in this city. Arrangements will be
completed for the  building  of  the church in the near future, it is expected, and work
on the building will begin within a few weeks, according to the present plans.

St.  Clair  Sherrod  is  home  after  a  trip  to Carlsbad, New Mexico, where he went in
the interest of the Wichita Broom Company.

Mr.  C.  Dean,  a  progressive  and prominent farmer from near Petrolia, was in the city
today and paid the Times a pleasant and appreciated call.

H.  A.  G???  superintendent  of  the  Fort  Worth and Denver railway, with headquarters
at Childress, is in the city looking after business matters.

Mrs.  T.  C. Stephens of Iowa Park, who has been visiting her friend, Mrs. S. J. Ashmore
of this city, returned to her home this afternoon, accompanied by Mrs. Ashmore.

Rev.  W.  L. Livingston, pastor of the Presbyterian church at Vernon, Texas, was a guest
of Rev. and Mrs. J. J. Dalton last night. He left this afternoon for his home at Vernon.

Mrs.  C.  B.  Googer  left  yesterday  for  Vernon, where she will reside in the future,
Mr. Googer  having  accepted  the position of foreman of the Vernon Hornet, a bright and
newsy weekly paper published by J. Ray.

W.  F.  Fry,  pastor  of  the  First  Baptist  church,  has returned from Abilene, where
he  attended  a  pastor's  conference.  The  regular services will be held at the church
tomorrow.  Attention  is  called  to  the  fact  that  the evening service will begin at
7:30 o'clock instead of 7.

Dr.      D.  T.  Sumnerville,  presiding  elder  of  the  Fort  Worth  district  of  the
Methodist   Episcopal  church,  stopped  off  here  yesterday  while  en  route  to  the
Panhandle,  to  confer  with  the members of the church here concerning the proposed new
church building. He left on an early north bound train this morning.

Mr.  and  Mrs.  P.  H.  Boddy and Miss Kate Patterson of Henrietta are the guests of Mr.
and  Mrs.  H.  B.  Patterson  of this city. Miss Patterson will return to Henrietta this
afternoon.

Engineer  J.  W.  Field  returned  last  night  from  Olney  where  he has been with the
surveying  corps  of  the  Wichita Falls and Southern and is now confined to his room in
this city with a severe attack of the grip.

Mr.  and  Mrs. W. Lory of Union Grove, Wisconsin, are in the city, and will likely spend
the  greater  portion  of  the  winter  here  as  the  guests  of  Judge  J.  J. Lory, a
relative of theirs.

Major  and  Mrs.  Robert  Cobb  left  yesterday  for  Amarillo  where  the  marriage  of
their  daughter  Virginia  Leome  to  Mr.  Henry C. Harding will take place at high noon

R.  E.  Montgomery,  the  original  promoter  of  the  townsite of Wichita Falls, who is
now living  in Fort Worth, stopped off here yesterday morning for several hours while en
route to British Columbia, where is he going to look after business interests.

Mr.  and  Mrs.  Samp  Nichols  of  Seymour  were  in  the city today en route to Duncan,
Oklahoma,  in  response  to a telegram announcing the death of Mrs. Nichols' brother-in-
law, Mr. J. Q. Cables, which occurred in that city on the 30th inst.

Mr. J. E. Adams, warehouseman for the Katy here, is reported quite sick with the grippe.

future home.  Mr.  Allen will succeed D. P. Duncan as secretary for the Wichita Mill and
Elevator Company.

Mrs. J. L. Mears, who has been quite sick with la grippe, is convalescing.

A. J. Haddix, the photographer, is on the sick list, having an attack of the grip.

Mr.  Tom  Hickman  reports that there are four cases of smallpox in his family, but that
all are getting along nicely. Mr. Hickman is quarantined away from his home.

Mr. C. H. Smith is able to be up again, after a siege of the grippe.

A  telegram  received  by  Mrs.  A.  H.  Carrigan  from her husband, Judge Carrigan, who
was  called  to  Hope,  Ark.,  last  Sunday  to attend the bedside of one of his sisters
who  died  before  he  arrived  there,  states  that  another  sister  is  very low with
pneumonia, and that but small hopes are entertained for her recovery.

Mr.  A.  Dickinson,  one  of our oldest citizens, who resides on the western edge of the
city,  is  very  sick  with  pneumonia.  His  condition,  however,  is not thought to be
dangerous.

Mr.  W.  H.  Balica,  one  of  the  prominent  citizens  of  Wichita  Falls,  now of San
Antonio,  passed  through  the  city  this afternoon en route to Farmington, New Mexico,
to visit his daughter, Mrs. T. D. Skeen.

Mr.  and  Mrs.  O.L.  Clark  were  in  the  city  today  on  their to Wichita Falls from
Llago, Texas,  where  Mrs. Clark has been in a sanitarium. While there Mrs. Clark gained
fourteen pounds  in weight and is much improved. After a short day at home, Mr. and Mrs.
Clark  will  probably  go  to  San  Antonio  to  ??  until  Mrs. Clark's health is fully
recovered.

Mrs.  J.  A.  Stafford,  wife of the pastor of the Tenth street Methodist church is very
sick with a severe attack of the grip.

On  account  of  the  illness  of  Mrs.  Stafford the Junior League social announced for
tomorrow night at the Tenth Street Methodist church has been indefinitely postponed.

Mr.  S.  C.  Campbell,  who  has  been quarantined at his home for the past two or three
weeks,  owing  to  smallpox  in  his  family,  is  again  at  his  desk  at the Coleman,
Lysaught, Blair Company. His little daughter has entirely recovered.

Mrs.  America  Bowman  of  Roswell,  New  Mexico,  and  her  granddaughter,  Miss  Belle
Terhune,  returned  to  Iowa  Park  today,  after  a  short  visit  with  Miss Terhune's
brother, Milton Terhune, paying teller at the First National Bank.

General  Attorney  C.  C.  Huff,  Auditor  M.  M. Murray and Stenographer Sanders of the
Wichita  Falls  and  Northwestern,  left for Guthrie yesterday, where Attorney Huff will
investigate the  orders  recently  passed  by  the  corporation  commission of Oklahoma,
affecting  the  Northwestern, and may file a motion for a rehearing of the Eschiti depot
question.

Mr.  C.  J. Shumake of Thornberry returned last night from Fort Worth, where he had been
to  visit  Mrs.  Shumake  and his son, James, who, a few months ago sustained a fracture
of  his  back  and  was  taken  to  Fort Worth and placed in a sanitarium in the hope of
effecting  a  cure,  or  at  least  some  relieve.  He  reports  that his son has gained
considerably  in  flesh  since  he  was  taken  to  Fort Worth, and shows other signs of
improvement in his general condition,  but  is  still unable to use his lower limbs. Mr.
Shumake,  however,  entertains  great  hope  for  the  recovery of his son, whom he says
shares  in  this  hope  and  is  very  much cheered and pleased with the treatment he is
receiving.

Mrs. W. H. Dammering.

Judge  A.  H. Carrigan arrived last night from Hope, Arkansas, where he was called about
ten  days  ago  by  the  death  of  a sister. After his arrival another sister was taken
seriously  ill,  and  on that account Judge Carrigan remained until it was believed that
she  was  out  of  danger.  Will  Carrigan,  who accompanied Judge Carrigan to Arkansas,
remained there for a longer stay.

Mrs.  Rosa  Barry,  who  was the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Morris Marcus for two weeks
past,  left  yesterday  for  her  home  in  Abilene.  She  was accompanied by her little
granddaughter, Adelle Marcus.

John  J.  Clark  of  Thorpe,  Texas,  a  dairyman  and  breeder  of  fine Jersey cattle,
accompanies  by  his  brother,  Prof.  Lee  Clark  of Iowa Park, is in the city today in
conference  with  local  parties  concerning  a  proposition to place 500 head of Jersey
cows here for dairy purposes.

The  little  son  of  Mr.  and  Mrs.  S.  T.  Scaling  of  Dundee, who had a severe case
of diphtheria, we are glad to state is convalescing nicely.

We  regret  to  state  that  information  obtained today from Dr. R. L. Miller is to the

Mr.  C.  P.  Fowler,  who  has been confined to his home for the past three weeks with a
severe case of grip, is able to be at his place of business today.

Mrs.  W.  R.  Gibson  and  daughter,  Mrs.  S.  J.  Ashmore,  left  this  afternoon  for
Springtown, Parker  county,  where they were called by telegram to attend the funeral of
Mrs. Gibson's father, who died yesterday.

Wiley  Wyatt  returned this afternoon from Fort Worth, where he had been to secure plans
and  specification  for  the  erection of a handsome new building now under construction
on 7th street.

Mr.  J.  W.  Nutt of this city has sold his residence property on 10th street to Mrs. N.
C.  McIntyre,  who  will  take  possession of same March 1st. Mr. Nutt and his estimable
family  will leave in the morning for their old home in Beeville, Texas, where they will
reside  in  the  future. During their stay in Wichita Falls, they have made many friends
who regret to see them take their departure from our city.

Messrs.  Walter  Allen  and  R.  B.  Wise  have leased the building formerly occupied by
the Coney  Island restaurant and have ordered new furniture, and on or about the 20th of
March will open up a strictly first class restaurant.

event takes place in that city next Thursday.

J.  R.  Carrico  and  wife,  yesterday  deeded  to  the  trustees of the First Methodist
Espicopal  church  two  lots  at  the  corner  of  Seventh  street and Lamar avenue. The
consideration for the  transfer  was $2,350. The lots were purchased as the site for the
handsome new church which is to be erected by that denomination.

M.  E.  Meredith  of  the  Lake  Creek  community,  was  a visitor to the city today and
reports that prospects for a splendid wheat crop in his neighborhood is very flattering.

Mr.  Dean  Howard,  who has been making his home at Aspermont, Texas, for the past year,
we are  reliably  informed  will  return  with his family to this city in a few days and
will  again  make  Wichita  Falls  their  home,  Mr. Howard having been appointed sexton
for the Riverside cemetery. They have many friends here who would welcome their return.

Among  those  from  this city who attended the meeting of the Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows
and  the  Rebekahs  were  Mr.  and  Mrs.  W. T. Arthur, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Seeley, B. F.
Crawford, John  A.  Fooshee and Jack Simmons. Most of them have returned and report that
about  3,500  were  in  attendance  and that there was not a building in Fort Worth that
could accommodate the crowd. The next meeting will be held at Galveston.

The  State  penitentiary  contractor  of  Huntsville  left  this  morning  with  Fisher,
Brooks,  Clark  and  Davis, who were convicted at the last term of the district court in
this city.

Carl  Boller,  an  opera  house  architect  of Kansas City, has been in town for several
days. Mr.  Boller is one of the architects who will submit plans for the new opera house
here.  A  committee  will go to Fort Worth next Wednesday to meet with the architects to
select plans for the building.

Mr.  J.  A.  Terhune and lawyer Methla of Wichita Falls left Tuesday night for Carlsbad,
N.  M.,  to  attend  the  trial  of  Moses  Lewis  for the murder of Leland Terhune last
July.  Mr.  Mathis  goes  as  one  of the prosecuting attorneys in the case. - Iowa Park

son of Mr. F. D. Smyth who is very low with blood poisoning.

J.  T.  Roberts,  traveling  freight  agent for the M. K. & T. with headquarters in this
city left this afternoon to look after the company's interest at Childress.

Messrs.  Sam,  Tom  and  Jack  Huggins  of Amarillo, and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Huggins of
Vernon,  Mr.  and  Mrs.  J.  H.  Huggins of Kell, Oklahoma, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miller of

Mr.  Dean  Howard  and  family, who have been residing at Aspermont, Texas, for the past
year,  returned  to  this  city yesterday and will again make Wichita Falls their future
home.

Mrs.  M.  E.  Williams  of  Denver,  Colo. Was a visitor in the city today on her return
from  Beeville,  Texas, where she had been prospecting. She bought property there, where
she will make her future home.

Miss  Jessie  Moore  has  severed  her  connection  as saleslady for V. G. Skeen and has
accepted  a  position  in  the  millinery  department  of Mrs. R. E. Clopton's at Rock &
Duke's.  Her  vacancy  at  Mr.  Skeen's  store  has been filled by her sister, Miss May,
formerly saleslady for Ferguson & Tankersley.

J. W. Huggins of Isadore, Oklahoma, was in the city today.

B.  N.  Ferguson,  one  of Iowa Park's trustworthy citizens, was transacting business in

The    $15,000  in  city  hall  bonds  were  received  today  from  Austin,  where  they
were  registered.  These  bonds  will  bear  four  per  cent interest. Mayor Noble has a
prospective purchaser in view.

J.  T.  Roberts,  traveling  freight  agent  for  the  M.K.&  T.  railroad  company, has
purchased the  C.  B.  Googer  property, at Gus Scott avenue from George W. Eagle and is

Rev.  W.  W.  Robinson, formerly pastor of the Methodist church at Byers, but now pastor

A.  J.  Bush  will  spend  a  few days next week in preaching at Burkburnett. There will

J.  H.  Hatcher  arrived  this  afternoon  from  Hydra,  Oklahoma,  where  he was called
from  Tampico,  Mexico,  on  account  of  the  illness  of his wife, who is now slightly
better.  Mr.  Hatchers  is  engaged in the real estate business at Tampico and speaks of
that place in a highly eulogistic manner.

Dr.  George  W.  Truet,  who  was  detained  in  Dallas  by  the death of two members of
his  congregation,  was  unable  on  this  account  to  preach  at  the  Baptist revival
meeting last night,  arrived  this  afternoon  and  will  preach tonight. In his absence
Rev.   W.   F.   Fry   preached   last   night   and   delivered   a   sermon  which was
characterized  by  its  deep earnestness.

B.  W.  Butler,  living  near  this  city, who has been seriously ill for several weeks,

Mr.   W.   S.   Jones,   managing   editor   of   the   Commercial   West,  published at
Minneapolis,  Minnesota,  was in the city today and this afternoon went over to Olney in
a  motor  car.  He  is  gathering  statistics for his paper, which is one of the leading
commercial  papers  of  the  United States, and will probably spend several days in this

Miss  Sazie  Field of Kell City, Oklahoma, is here to take part in the praise service at
the Presbyterian church tomorrow night.

Mr.  and  Mrs.  Joe  Weidman  and son, Stanley, returned this afternoon from a six weeks
visit with relatives in Chicago and Indiana.

J.  T.  Harding,  a  prominent  citizen  of  Bryan,  Texas, was in the city today on his
return from a business trip to Fort Worth and Sherman.

W.  Y. McCune, auditor and secretary for the Wichita Valley railway company of this city
is transacting business in Fort Worth.

Mr.  W.  A.  Smith, of Odessa, Mo., arrived yesterday for a visit to his brother, Mr. J.
C. Smith, whom he had not met for over twenty years.

Luther  Puryear,  one  of  the  leading business men of Dundee, was in the city today on
his return from Archer City, where he had been attending court.

J.  A.  Green,  traveling  salesman  for  the  Wichita Mill and Elevator Company of this
city, with headquarters at Vernon was transacting business here today.

Messrs.  Nelse  and  Ole  Anderson who have just completed the dam for the Wichita Falls
and  Southern  railway company near Archer City, were attending to business matters here
today.

R. P. Webb of Alvord was transacting business in the city today.

Mrs. T. B. Smith left this afternoon for Seymore to visit relatives.

W. H. Taylor of Holliday was among the visitors in the city today.

George Byers, a resident of Byers, Texas was here today on business.

J.  A.  Lowrey,  one  of  Holliday's  enterprising  citizens was transacting business in
the Falls today.

Messrs.  Stalford  Helms  and  Jos.  Smith, two young business men from Dundee were here
today on business.

Miss  Jennie  Belcher  of  Henrietta arrived in the city this afternoon and is the guest
of her sister, Miss Connie Wills.

Ed.  Gardner,  one  of  Wichita  county's  progressive  young  farmers, was attending to
business matters in the city today.

Mrs.  M.  I.  Jordan of Clarendon, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. W. C. Heath,
of this city for the past two months, left for her home this afternoon.

H.  L.  Liberman  and  son  of  Olney  were here today on their way to Lawton, Oklahoma,
where  Mr.  Liberman  is  going  to  look  after  business matters. He reports plenty of
rain       in  the  Olney  country  and  fine  crop  prospects.  He  believes  that  the
differences    between  the  railroad  and  the  citizens  of  Olney  will  be  adjusted
satisfactorily  to  all  parties  concerned and that Olney will soon enter upon the most
prosperous era the town has ever known.

Sheriff L. Craddock of Seymour was in the city today.

Judge Felder returned this afternoon from a business trip to Graham.

Mrs. E. M. Suddith is confined to her home with a severe case of neuralgia.

Miss Fay Trueblood of Dallas is in the city visiting friends.

S.  Edwards,  a  prominent  grain  man  of Seymour, was transacting business in the city
today.

Miss  Mary  Childress  of  Abilene  was  in  the  city  today  en  route  to Amarillo to
visit friends.

Rev.  T.  R.  Bowles  left  this  afternoon  for  Blue  Grove,  where  he  will fill his
regular appointments Saturday and Sunday.

Fred  Crumpley  returned  last  night from New Hope, Texas, where he had been to pay the
last sad rites to his father, who died recently.

J.  W.  Hopper  and  E. E. Stanley of Barwell, KY, arrived in Wichita Falls yesterday on
a prospecting trip and are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Mask.

Mr.  William  Grant,  accompanied  by  Mrs. Whaley and Miss Hettie Slaughter of St. Joe,
Texas, were in the city today, the guests of Rev. J. A. Stafford.

Dr.  J. J. Dalton, Miss Kate Haynes and W. H. Bachman went to Chillicothe this afternoon
to attend the meeting of the Amarillo Presbytery, which convened there this morning.

The Dundee town council at a recent meeting caused a proposal for a committee to draw up
a scheme  bearing  upon  the  municipalization  of  the  milk supply of the city, but it
was defeated by 23 votes to 3.

A. H. McDavid of Archer City was among the visitors in the city today.

T. H. Kemp, one of the leading real estate men of Olney is in the city.

A. J. Weeth of Iowa Park was in the city today en route to Decatur on business.

Mr. J. H. Huggins of Isadore, Okla., was in the city transacting business today.

S. T. Scaling, a prominent farmer and stockman of Dundee, is here on business today.

Joe  Bowers,  an  extensive  farmer  and  stockman  for  Holliday is in the city looking
after business matters.

Monroe  Dodson,  a  prominent  citizen  of  Burkburnett  was transacting business in the
city today.

Sanford  Wilson,  one  of  Archer  City's  staunch  citizens  was looking after business
matters here today.

Mrs.  M.  E.  Williams  of  Clarendon  is  visiting  her  sons, Jesse and C. M. Doke and
their families of this city.

Miss  Frankie  Lee,  who  is  teaching  school  at Day Station spent Saturday and Sunday
with relatives and friends in this city.

Messrs.  S.  N.  Lawler  and  Jno.  Brooks,  two  of  Burkburnett's progressive citizens
were transacting business here today.

Miss  Emma  Haynes,  one of the teachers in the public schools at Iowa Park spent Sunday
with her sisters, Misses Kate and Jodie Haynes.

J.  T.  Speakers, with the Wichita Valley railway company of this city visited relatives
and friends in Dallas yesterday, returning to his post of duty today.

Mrs.  Russell  Eakan  of  Nocona,  who  has  been  visiting  relatives in Dundee, passed
through the city yesterday en route home, accompanied by her father, Mr. T. A. Helm.

Miss  Lillian  Redding,  who  is teaching school at Maybelle after a pleasant visit with
her  parents,  Mr.  and  Mrs.  N.  H.  Redding  of  this  city,  returned  to her school
yesterday evening.

Miss  Fay  Trueblood  of  Dallas  has returned to this city and her friends will be glad
to learn that she accepted her old position as one of the sales ladies for P. H. Penning
Co., and will make Wichita her home again.
