Doctor Nichols Schilling, was born in Bavaria, Germany. His family settled in Maryland.
In 1864
he enlisted in Co. K, First Regiment, Potomac Home
Brigade, Maryland
Cavalry. After the war he attended
Chicago Medical College
(now Northwestern University
Medical School). He received his medical degree
in 1872 and arrived
in Cedar Bayou, Chambers
County in 1874. Dr.
Schilling married Miss Linna E. Gaillard
and they were the
parents of Dr. John G. and Annie Schilliing. Cedar Bayou Masonic Lodge records
show he
became a Master
Mason in 1877, served as secretary and treasurer. He died at his Cedar Bayou home in 1919.
The old medical
office, books and medicinal supplies was donated by the family to Chambers County and moved
by barge to Anahuac.

Doctor Asa Morgan
was born 1826 in Dayton, Ohio.
He attended medical school in DeWitt,
Iowa.
He enlisted as
an assistant surgeon in 1861, serving with the Twelfth Regiment, Third Iowa Cavalry. After the
Battle of Shiloh he was promoted to full
surgeon and was promoted to the rank of major.
When the war was over
Dr. Morgan
settled on Cedar Bayou in Chambers
County. After the death of his first wife, Rowena
Isabel he married
Hattie
McCracken.
