Chambers County was formed in 1858 from Liberty and Jefferson Counties. Named in honor of General Thomas Jefferson Chambers. Chambers County is situated in the southeast part of Texas, is one-third water, lying directly on the Gulf of Mexico. The County's flat coastal plains and a readily available supply of water provide the basis for a broad spectrum of agricultural opportunities including ranching, rice, and soybean farming being primary. The commercial fishing industry of Galveston and Trinity Bays also play an important part in the Chambers County economy.
