Carruth ~ ca 1902
Carruth was located on the Jacobs
Survey in the southeastern portion of Caldwell County. The land on which Carruth
lay was owned by Dr. Clay Nichols, who was also its first postmaster. The post
office was established in 1902. There was a store and cotton gin in operation.
Colie Etheridge was its last postmaster when, in 1906, the office was closed and
moved to Granz in Gonzales County. The children attended the Rock Water Hole
School. In 1912 Sarah Spencer bought the property that included the gin, store
and home. A tornado in 1940 destroyed the remaining structures. Today nothing
remains of this little town.
