The news reached this place last friday afternoon about 5 o'clock that A. Struve of Shovel Mountain had accidentally shot himself.  Physicians went at once, but failed to locate the ball, which entered his left side just below the heart.  An Xray machine was brought into use, but of no avail.

From all reports it appears that Judge Struve had decided to go hunting, and was in the act of removing the gun ( a .22 target) from the rack when the fatal shot was fired.  He passed away Sunday afternoon about 5 o'clock, and was laid to rest in the family grave yard near his home.  [Shovel Mountain Cemetery]

Esq. Struve left Germany at the age of 14 years and came to Texas in 1848.  He has been a resident of Burnet county 35 years and has served the people of Shovel Mountain as Post Master and Justice of the Peace since 1884, and was a valuable man to his community in various ways.  He was married the second time only two months ago, and leaves six boys to mourn his loss, four of which are in Hale county, one in Gonzales and one in this county.
