Mrs. J. W. Stanford was called by death at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Guthrie near Burnet last Wednesday night, October 7th, 1936.  Interment was the next day in Bear Creek Cemetery, with Rev. Buren Sparks, pastor of the Burnet Baptist Church conducting the service.

Mrs. Stanford's maiden name was Mary Frances Rodgers.  She was born August 25th, 1852, in Pike County, Alabama, making her at the time of her death 84 years, 1 month and 12 days of age.  She was united in marriage to W. J. Stanford on August 25th, 1872.  To this union two sons and five daughters were born.  The family moved to Texas in 1877 and first located in Titus County.  They moved to Burnet county in January 1881, and since that time, a period of 55 years, this has been Mrs. Stanford's home.

There were seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Stanford -- two sons and five daughters.  The husband, the two sons and one daughter passed on [some text unreadable]  ...are Mrs. W. D. Arnett of Lubbock, Mrs. J. C. Arnett of Lubbock,  Mrs. G. W. Brock of Paducah, and Mrs. Henry Guthrie of Burnet.  She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

At an early age Mrs. Stanford was converted and joined the Baptist Church.  During all the years she lived a consistent, Christian life, and was loved and honored by all who knew her.  Truly it may be said of her she was a woman who commanded the esteem and respect of all with whom she came in contact, and by her works and Christian example made the world better by having lived in it.  This is a great heritage to leave her children and many friends and her memory will be cherished.

The Bulletin extends sympathy to Mrs. Guthrie and the other bereaved relatives.

[Transcriber's note:  Mrs. Henry Guthrie was Emma Stanford, b. 25 Sept 1874, d. 3 Dec 1965.  She married Henry Sidney Guthrie 7 June 1896 in Burnet.  Information from Burnet County History, Vol II, page 129, Guthrie Family. ]
