Thelma Olive Province O'Malley, born in Kansas City, Missouri on May 24, 1921, died of cancer in Austin on July 24, 2007. She settled in Liberty Hill in 1975 when she and her late husband, Lt. Col. Patrick J. O'Malley, retired from the US Air Force.

Before raising her family as a military wife, Thelma served in the Coast Guard during World War II, worked as a stenographer Washington, D.C., and attended the University of Kansas City. An avid genealogist and member of the Burnet County Genealogical Society, Thelma explored her family history on the Internet well into her eighties. She was also a member and past president of the Liberty Hill Garden Club, and her many other interests included current events, crossword puzzles, and popular music played throughout her life on a spinet piano she had purchased as a young woman.

A beloved mother and grandmother, Thelma is survived by her daughters, Mary Pat Bolton and husband Greg, Nancy O'Malley and husband Wayne Estes, and Katherine O'Malley and husband Marc Plaza; her son, Timothy P. O'Malley; as well as her grandchildren, Katie and Meg Bolton, Clary and Hannah Estes, and Jesse and Rae Plaza.

An open viewing is scheduled on Sunday, July 29, from noon until 6:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, with a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 30, in the funeral home chapel.

In place of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to Hospice Austin or to a cancer research organization, such as the American Cancer Society or the National Cancer Institute.

Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.mem.com
