The dark cloud of sorrow which had slowly gathered for the past four weeks, burst suddenly upon us Thursday night shortly before eleven o'clock, when God reached forth his hand and quietly ushered the spirit of Uncle Bill Farquhar into that great beyond. Our Heavenly Father alone, can know when the limit of life is reached and the experience of mankind has demonstrated the universal dominion of death. It is the common lot of all and sooner or later must overtake us.

William A. Farquhar was born in Fayette County, Alabama, December 30, 1851 and died September 9, 1926, at his home at Lake Victor. He was the youngest of thirteen children born to Anderson and Lavina Farquhar, who were among the earliest settlers of Burnet County.

William A. Farquhar, was converted at the age of nineteen and joined the Baptist Church at Strickling. He was associated with different congregations during his life and was a member of the Lake Victor Baptist Church when called by death.

On March 7, 1878, he was married to Martha L. Bowles, and settled on a part of the old homestead. His wife lived little more that eight years. On December 27, 1891, he was again married, this time to Miss Eleanora Keating and for almost thirty-five years, they walked hand in hand, sharing each others joys and sorrows. Their home life was truly beautiful, and never have I known a husband and wife more faithful, kind and affectionate, their love growing stronger as the years went by; her sympathy, tender care and loving kindness, cheering and brightening his last days.

He realized that the end was near but death had no terrors, his only regret seemed to be of leaving her alone. His illness was long and painful, but he bore it without complaint. To him, God permitted the fulfillment of the promise of Job, "Thou shalt come to thy grave at a full old age, like a shock of corn cometh in its season."

His weary, worn body was laid to rest Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the Cobble Cemetery, Rev. A.V. Feild, pastor of the Baptist Church conducting the service.

The great number following the body to its last resting place was but one of the many testimonials of the nobility of the life he had lived. The broken hearted wife, the aged brothers, the host of nieces and nephews, the countless friends all mourn his loss, but though the face is gone from our realm, and the voice is still, yet in influence, he lives still with those who knew and loved him. The passing years shall but hallow and sweeten the memories he has left behind him.
