Geisler, Marcus

Lowville Journal
May 5, 1909

Marcus Geisler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Geisler of Rome, was instantly killed Sunday evening by electricity. He was in his 13th year. He took hold of the strand of twisted wire which is strung down the side of the electric light poles, for the purpose of shaking it to see if the street lamp would light. That lamp, located in front of the Rome Steam Mills of Hughes and Wilkinson, in South George Street, near the Watertown branch and the lamp at the corner of George and Ridge Streets were out. The boy shook the wire at the latter lamp, and then, with other boys, ran to the other lamp, thinking to do the same thing. Marcus grabbed the wire, the end being about five feet from the ground. Sparks flew out from the wire and the little fellow tried to let go and could not, and fell to the ground dead.

Utica Herald
May 30, 1921

Milton I. Greene, aged 62 years, and a lifelong resident of Greenway took his life about 7:30 last evening by hanging himself in the barn on his farm. He had been despondent for some time and had threatened to make away with himself and for this reason had been watched very carefully by the other members of his family. Yesterday he performed his usual duties in his accumstomed manner and just after eating supper, he started for the barn to care for the horses for the night. His brother, Louis followed him to the barn but as he left the house, his attention was taken by some crows in the corn field. He went to the field and frightened the birds away and then hurried to the barn, thinking of his brother's safety. When he arrived at the barn, a very short time after leaving the house, he saw his brother hanging and life had left his body. Dr. H. J. Teller, Coroner, was called and went directly to the Greene house. Mr. Greene had taken one of the horses to a harness and had thrown it over a beam of the barn. He placed one end of the line about his neck, then fixed the other end so that it would not slip back over the beams, and leaned into the loop.

Mr. Greene was born and had always lived on the farm where he died and was of a very kindly disposition and agreeable mature. He was well liked by his many friends in his community as well as in this city. He never married but made his home with his two brothers, Louis K. and Judson B. Greene.
