Welsh Church Cemetery

This cemetery is located on Quaker Hill Road at the intersection of Krzewinski Road in the Town of Western. The cemetery has long been abandoned and is in disrepair. Trash litters the area, as well as several dead tree limbs. The entire area is overgrown with weeds.

Originally the building was a Quaker Meeting House. In 1851 the Welsh Calvinistic Sociery purchased the old building. (Deed Book #168, pg. 333) Shortly thereafter the Welsh Society began using the rear area of the property as a burial ground. By 1874 membership had increased to 24 members. The original Church leaders, Edward Lewis and John Jones, both died in 1899 and by 1900 the church membership had rapidly declined. The Church was soon abandoned and eventually fell down. There are over 50 burials here, most of them unmarked.

The tombstones in this cemetery were copied by Kathleen Last and Virginia Ackerman on April 20, 1999.
